I recently picked up a Remington 760 in 244 that's in excellent condition. I'd guess both the wood and bluing is 95% or better. I was hoping someone on here would know more about it than I found out with what research I did. It has the five diamond foreend, what appears to be factory sling studs, and a running deer on the bottom of the grip. Would that be a "deluxe" model? Also is there anyway to figure out the year it was made? I know they were made from 57-59or60. Approximate value?

It's the BDL of the day w/ the 5 diamonds on it if the wood is original. Pistol grip should be checkered too if that's the case. Between 1957 and 1961 they were made. I bought the last one I got for $400 in decent shape. Not sure that the studs are factory, or the deer on the grip cap...can't remember on that. They usually won't stabilize heavier than about 80-90 grain cup & core bullets w/ the twist Remington put in them, which led to more twist being added in later models which were than called the 6mm Remington - same cartridge. If you do ever go to sell it, I may be interested in another. In PA, we like our 760's.

There is one going on Gun Broker right now that started at $100 and is at $1,136 as I type this with over 5 days to go. Same one as you have. Deer on grip cap, same forearm, sling studs. Stated as an ADL Deluxe by the seller. Hope you got it at a good price.

Thanks for the responses. After checking the date stamp it comes back as a 57 model. I saw that auction on gunbroker today as well. Made me feel pretty good getting the gun and a box of original 244 ammo for $525.

Pretty rare caliber, and with original box of ammo, that sounds like a heckuva deal!!

Gunbroker often makes a guy feel really good, but whether it's a fair representation of value, or just a few guys that want that gun really bad for their collection, is hard saying.
