UH OH, Bought a hunk to turn... only to learn the material requires a tool $$$ I dont have !!
Apparently a Negative rake carbide tipped tool. Hmmm.
I do have an old "billy club" lol, with a round insert. No clue as to the rake, etc. it was homemade, bought off a forum decades ago!

The negative rake is ideal but it dont really have to be. Ive done it with regular tools both carbide and hss. But its a pain for sure.

Good evening :)
I got a Easy Wood brand tool, that will hold the negative rake bit.
I called them for product selection.
They provided excellent support :)

Since then I have added several other turning tools. Some are for turning bowls :)
A few work holding things.
A Sharpening jig and some finishing supplies.
Reeds and sleeves arrived :)
I even signed up for a Bowl turning class at the local Woodcraft !! lol!

Last weekend I went to ER, but dang it, what a disaster! Now I am back to hobbling around.
That was NOT part of the plan!!

It is OK. Patience. And yes, more trust in God. So many people have much much worse situations.
Before the ER visit, I was attempting a "Bud Vase". From a green, branch of Ky. Persimmon (aka firewood).
Was a lot of fun, and educational. (AKA Mistakes were made). :)

The piece of Acrylester basically blew up on me. chips everywhere. Thank god I used a full face safety mask! Not going to try that again.
