Interesting Decoy Idea UPDATE!!!!

I've called in a couple roadrunners, they run around trying to find the sound. They cock their head one way and another and start searching again and again.
 
They're looking for that woodpecker, Erich. ;) :)
Joking aside, I have, too. They're just curious like a lot of critters. Amazing what all comes to the call out of curiosity. Have had deer, especially does, & all sorts of exotics come to the call, for instance.

Roadrunner pics are cool as hell from a guy in Illinois. Is that fellow a nuisance, or is it a fun thrill to have him stop bye? I obviously know very little about the SW.
 
I have one that visits our back yard often. Not much of a threat or nuisance unless you're a small lizard.

Didn't have any roadrunners in town but did have chachalaca visited often. Loved the back yard and were very fond of peaches. If their raucous call, from which they get their name, suddenly becomes silent, they are stealing peaches!

Have had quite a few roadrunners show up while calling; not sure if they are attracted to call out of curiosity or if they just happened along. They sure are attentive to the call when they get there, but have not had them approach a decoy.

ETA: Not sure but I suspect this one, rooting around a rubbing tree where hogs rub after wallowing in mud around a pond, is looking for ticks rubbed off by the hogs?

I was watching an old Les Johnson video and he ha 2 decoy crows in the sage brush around him, obviously he killed some coyotes but thought it was cool. I found some on amazon for cheap, ganna try it out
 
Many years ago while I was eating my lunch in the shade of a tank at work. I watched a Roadrunner body slam a small lizard about 15 to 20 times and then swallow the lizard whole. I don't think the Roadrunner wanted to swallow a lizard that was still moving.

I don't remember ever calling in a Roadrunner, they must not like rodent and bird distress sounds

We have a lot of sandhill cranes down here:

and an occasional whooping crane......one mistake you do not want to make if hunting.

We lived in center of a large residential development in town, quite a distance from any bodies of water and had this guy wander around the yard for a while.

For most of August I watched a pair of blue herons at a dirt cattle tank way out in the desert at least 25 miles from the nearest permanent water. They were absolutely gorging themselves on tadpoles.
