Introducing Predator University

I certainly agree with that!

Same here for public land and game birds or deer. Lots of acres and animals but we get all the once a year hunters out during the first week of the seasons. I don't like it so I don't hunt it!

For me it's more about concern for MY safety than hunting!

The more we agree as hunters and protecting our rights the better for all of us and the better educated a new hunter is the safer it is for all. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Above all don’t crap on a guys desire to earn a living hunting, especially if you are involved in a family operation selling “canned hunts” on high fence property…

AMEN,I have lived in Texas all of my life and have hunted just about everything that is NATIVE to this state. I have traveled to many Western states to hunt and do admitt that the availability of public land there is amazing. Here in my home state I have asked permission to hunt properties and have been thankful, I have paid for the lease of land to hunt and still do, I own my own property that I hunt on, have let others hunt on, and have charged people to hunt on.
There is NOTHING that has done more DAMAGE to our sport of hunting than a CANNED HUNT BEHIND A HIGH FENCE.
I know that some of these ranches are huge and it is not like "shooting fish in a barrel" but most people do not see it this way. The fact that the animals behind the fence are bred to be trophies takes the whole meaning of trophy out of the equation and has driven the cost of hunting to a rediculous high.
If you are profiting from the sport of hunting, more power to you, as long as the ethics of the sport are not jeapordized.
If you are guideing, selling,or buying, hunts from behind a "High Fence" then I have no respect for you. Just please do not call yourself a "Hunter" as you make the rest of us look bad.
It is terrible that when I see a mount on the wall, the question comes to mind, How much did it cost? Was there a fence? Or was it a well deserved trophy that was hunted for on free range without a guide to point it out.

One way or another we have to Pay to Play. I dont understand why some folks are so bent out shape over Tony's endever. I'm pretty sure he is not going to be bringing bus loads of trigger happy clients to Your blessed hunting grounds. You would have to assume two things right off the bat. First, he would have secured permission on plenty of property for himself and clients. Second he would more than likely be hunting one on one with the client. How does anyone figure this is any different than a deer or fishing guide? Ive never seen anyone offer this service before, not to say it has not been done but, I think its kind of clever.

Go for it Tony and just forget the hype! Showing some folks the right way to get started is only good in my eyes. I'm certain plenty of guys and gals will jump at the chance to use your service.

Best of Luck, Dave

Congratulations on your new endeavor, Tony! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif I think it is a real cool idea and your website looks awesome. If anyone can make this dream a reality, it will be you. I am sure glad I had the oppourtunity to get to know you and proudly call you my friend. I wish you, Dawn, and the rest of your family the best of luck. A man that has the guts and drive to go pursue his dreams is first rate in my book. Good luck my friend!

Good Luck on your American dream of making a living at something you love to do and share with other people! Bummer that you have to put up with all the nay sayers that always see their glass as half empty. People with less drive and ambition look at you and see competition instead of the sport we love being enjoyed and enhanced.

Don't know if it will work or not, but I can't believe it will have any negative impact .... good luck to you, Tony.

Eric

I think it will be a hard task. Don't think it will generate enough $ to live off of. What about unexpected bills or medical insurance. I am sure we all know what happens when people drop medical insurance to chase a dream. Medical bills can add up quick! Be careful!

I wish you luck Tony.

I would love to have someone show me how to better hunt coyotes in the AREAS I have consistent access to.

That would be awesome.

Some of the posts on this board are a big disppointment to me. Usually posts, even when there are differing views, are made in a spirit of camaraderie. But some of these strike me as petty and downright mean, even with the caveats. I can't understand why a predator hunter begrudges a fellow hunter the opportunity to follow his dream. Maybe its a good idea or maybe it isn't but its his hide and he wants to try it. The credit really does belong to "the man who is actually in the arena and not to the ones who point out how the strong man stumbled or how the doer of deeds could have done them better". All of this bellyacheing is below the dignity of this board.

I know Tony and have hunted with him. He is a great guy who is unselfish and giving. He is a great caller and will give anyone who hunts with him their money's worth. I intend to do just that just to enjoy some time together with him on a hunt--we all know a big part of the enjoyment of hunting is the people we share it with. Tony is that kind of person.

West Texas is a mighty big area. It has a lot of predators so there should be enough to go around. I understand the problems with getting places to hunt. It just goes with the territory. But any way you take it, Texas is a great place to hunt with very hunter friendly game laws. I think Tony chose a great place to locate his business.

Please don't think I just fell off the turnip truck. I've lived my whole life in Texas and learned to call using a Burnham Brothers call with a 45 rpm record in the early '60s. Most of you haven't ever seen a 45 rpm record. I had the good fortune to learn how to lip squeak from Murray Burnham. So I've seen the changes that have occurred in predator hunting. This is just a normal progression in the popularity of our sport. Predator Xtreme magazine says it is the fastest growing of all the hunting sports. Tony isn't going to have enough effect on that to be able to measure.

Tony, go for it. [beeep] the torpedos, full speed ahead. Those who say you can't don't have the cajones to try. Even if you fail, "your place will never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory or defeat".

Save me a place in your schedule.

About 60% of the land i hunt is private and open to anyone that asks to hunt it, been shareing with others for years..
Yes there are getting to be to many callers out there and i don't have to like it....

I "share" my hunting area with: /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
#1: other callers, both new & experienced
#2: greyhound hunters
#3: shotgun/truck hunters
#4: guys that use trailhounds
#5: trappers
Do I complain about it? Nope.
I just try to figure out a way to have the best "season" I can while having fun.
Competition either will make you learn how to be better, or it will turn you ugly if you let it.

What I want Tony to do is teach a class on how you talk your wife into letting you quit your job, sell your house, move to a different state and become a full time predator hunter. Now, I think that's a class we would all pay for. Sign me up!

You nailed it! I would just go to the class, for moving to another state. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
