Sunday morning and this is my church. Been spending a lot of time out here, waiting for that particular deer. Out here, beneath the sun split branches darkness fades to light.

165 gr. Federal fusion serves up coyotes in short order. Targets of opportunity that walked past the wrong deer stand at the wrong time.

It's been a tough deer season here, bout time to get back to calling.

Awesome man! The pic of the sun coming up behind the tree is great. Congrats on the two yotes too!

I was just talking to someone about all the beautiful sites I’ve seen while hunting. All the sunrises and sunsets, the woods covered in fluffy white snow after a snowstorm, breathtaking terrain and all the wildlife. It got me thinking about many of the people that are not into any outdoor activities. The ones that sit on a couch and watch tv all day. They never see what people like us see. We are truly lucky to have found a hobby that takes us to these places.

+1000 and that sunrise leaves me speechless! Thanks once more, Jeremy.

I think a lot of people miss out on some of the beauty of our “outdoor activities” by getting caught up in numbers. Trying to kill and make as many stands in a day can form of type tunnel vision, rushing past the pieces of things not found inside urban areas or those that get obscured by crowds. When I deer hunt I realize that sometimes I too get caught up in the rush, trying to get to that one last stand before dark. When I am fighting the cold and sitting in a deer stand filling piss bottles, I keep in mind that I am observing animals doing what they do, without the stimulation of triggered behavior by a call. I got into the stand just before daylight, I heard a coyote whimpering with laughter and making very submissive yips, vocals I don’t hear that often nor at that close of a distance. They were being very vocal and then at first shooting light I saw this female on a sand ridge overlooking the area of those submissive yips. Hours later I had the male I suspect to be her mate zig zagging through the cedars downwind of her. Whether or not those coyotes knew each other is all speculation, but the fact that they got to close to the wrong deer hunter is not up for debate.

You are spot on, Jeremy. I love pictures taken in early sunrise light...

but foggy mornings add a hint of mystery to the equation. This buck wasn't much, but what caught my attention was the extra white throat patch and whiter than usual strip on forehead (a not so common gene on this ranch as I've seen one other buck with similar markings). And then there was the fog that morning.

This is one picture I wish there had been no fog and the deer had been a bit closer so I could have used less zoom. Gotta look real close but he has two main beams on his right side. I only saw him once but a couple other hunters saw him as well. Note, too, the droopy right ear.

Gotta love those foggy mornings,

I often find myself being complacent about the surroundings until a good photo op registers in my brain.
It's kinda like going fishing when a hot girl shows up in a string bikini.

Oh forgot Good post.

Very Cool! Sometimes we get caught up in killing something instead of just enjoying "The Hunt".I know in some of my deer hunts, even though I didn't kill something, I leave there thinking,... that was awesome!

That’s a good observation. I think we’ve all been there a time or two. Some stay stuck in it their whole life.

We have had low pheasant numbers here this fall, but being out with a 2 year old lab that gets it is just worth it. Her joy to be out hunting scent and the boundless energy is worth the effort even with limited results. It beats the couch potato life just for the sights and sounds of the outdoors. The same goes for the sights and sounds of calling coyotes once that becomes our focus.

Great pictures by both of you

Excellent pictures everyone. I always said my church is outside, I have never felt closer to the creator then when I was sitting alone in the outdoors.

Church is where I hear His Word and get to understand Him better, and the outdoors is where I experience His greatness.

Wonderful pictures. Thanks for posting that.
