IR illuminator for photon

Are you sure that your switch isn't on 15% power? Most of these lights have a 3 mode tailcap switch that allows 15%, 50%, and 100% power. To change power you only press the switch in half-way. You should see it change brightness while looking through the scope. If you don't see that then you have a bad light or a bad switch if your battery is adequately charged. I use a Unique fire T-20 and mostly run it on 50%.

I am looking at getting a different ir for my atn and was looking at the t20 I can get it from ebay in a week instead of 2 maths from Japan .
Most likely a 940 . What is your range on the t20.
They also have one on there that is 7 watts I have been looking but don't know any advice .

Last year I had reflective markers in the field behind my house, and had lots of opportunities to look at animals at known yardages. I could identify deer out to about 500 yds., and coyotes from 375 to almost 400 yds. I would say that when you get out that far, the magnification is more of an issue than the amount of light.

The 940nm will be almost invisible at the source, but won't light nearly as far. I don't have one but that is what everyone says about them.

A 940nm might do okay at that range if you can find one in a focusable flashlight style. I found this one also located in Calif., but again the link to e-bay won't work.

A 940nm light is nowhere near as bright as an 850nm one, but it may be useful if up close. Would be nice to have a 940nm in a more powerful light, if they even make such a thing. A T-50 or T67 or similar might be worth a look if one is available.
 
I'm just unsure what light to get they are saying 940 isn't a spooky to game as the 850 most of my shots are going to be roughly 100 yards give or take .
Not sure what the factory ir is on my x sight but I've had 3 sets of eyes turn tail never to be seen again .
So just trying to weigh my options .

I think the onboard IR is an 805 or 810nm, but it is a pretty small light. There are lots of factors that can spook predators. While IR light might do it, getting your wind is a lot more likely as well as too much movement or noise. I've killed a pretty good number of coyotes and can't really remember one spooking from the 850nm IR. I've had them stop, but you're going to be able to see them at much greater distance and so when they stop it is time to pop them.

Deer immediately see the 850nm light as soon as it is hits them, but they just stare at it without really spooking.

I think spooking with any kind of light is dependent on the critter itself and the environment. I've only ever had a couple spook from a red light once they commited. I've had countless never show, maybe the lights spook them before they show but I've never been able to ask. Depending on where you hunt coyotes see all kinds of lights every night unless your hunting wilderness areas. I think they become acclimated to some lights to a degree. The subtle glow from an 850nm is a lot less than a visible red LED at 630nm. I shine my red light at my dog at 5 feet away and he doesn't blink, yet the same light worries some coyotes at 200 yards. The 850 may be visible to them but I'd think it has to be real subtle.
