What specific IR laser are you talking about? The LDI lasers we use have no recoil trouble.

Vic

I want an IR laser on my shotgun. If your saying any of your LDI lasers will take the recoil then question answered.

Thanks for the link Shurshot.

Interesting, both my OTAL's and ITALS's survived just fine with both shot and slugs. ONLY tried the D2 with Shot (BUT NO SLUG FIRE TESTED) and all worked as advertised.

I ran all lasers with our Benelli M3.

I have been interested on putting an IR laser on a shotgun myself since I have gotten more comfortable with the helmet mounted PVS but have held off because of the problems I read about. I would probably get one if I thought I wasn't throwing money away. I have the I2 on my Colt AR but was afraid to try it on a shotgun because I didn't want to break it.

Thanks Shurshot. Victor TNVC, have you had any testing with 3.5" done? Mine seem to kick more than any 3" slugs or mag loads. What is the Warranty on your units? Also could they be mounted under the barrel?

Thanks Kyle, I'll ck their website and maybe talk to a rep. And yes the 3.5" #4 Buck is a kicker, only thing worse is a single shot 10ga. with big shot.

Not tested with the 3.5. Warranty is one year factory warranty. Not have any issues with any declines of warranty service due to recoil issues.

As for under the barrel, do you have a pic of the setup your referring to?

Vic

Victor, I would like to have one that clamps around the barrel something close to a scope ring but with a picatinny rail. Really didn't want it on the receiver. As far as the one year warranty, will the year start over after repair?

We've had folks use our SAR's on a section of the Mag tubes with lasers. http://tnvc.com/shop/category/weapon-mounts/page/2/ I have not mounted an IR laser there but only a light at one time awhile back.

As for the warranty not sure if the entire unit is a do over, The part/parts replaced are, but I can confirm with LDI to be sure.

Vic

As you can see in the link above...

I have a mossberg 835 with the pic rail and another extended rail on top. I have the ldi dbal i2 on a picatinny rail with an eotech behind just for backup so i can always check the laser before each hunt saves me money on shells...

I recommend that you locate the laser on a rail/receiver and not the fore end or barrel. Dedicate this gun just for the IR laser...

I use the eagletac ir because its inexpensive. you will need an ir on the helmet and the gun.

The dbal d2 (only tested 2 when it was first released) did not take the 3.5 dead coyote and #4 recoil.

I have fired over 100 rounds and the Dbal i2 is taking the recoil.

Some tips:

Make sure your gun does not have any open rail or sharp edges...i have cut my fingers when using the dead coyote at night with the laser...hold the gun tight..when using the laser you will have the tendency to use a light grip because you will be out of the shoulder mostly.

I use full choke because i can use buckshot, tshot and number 4 without the need to change chokes.....and at 10 yards while up in a tree stand you can easily miss...so practice....

Make sure nothing is hanging from the gun that will make noise at night. Instead of moving the gun I try to let them walk into the beam...Less noise and movement.

When i am up in the tree stand bushes, tall grass, leaves and tree limbs really get in my way...so i clear an area...

I've had foxes come out less than 20 yards in front of me while i was standing in the middle of the field with the caller, nv/helmet and ir laser on shotgun....I dont use it all the time but it has its purpose. Works great on raccoons.

hope that helps..

Mr. B, thanks for clearing it up that the I2 will take the recoil. If I find I don't need it on my AR which also has the D760 mounted to it I may just move it to a shotgun. There may be a less expensive model too that doesn't have a visible laser. Maybe Vic can chime in. My I2 is out of warranty if it's only 1 year and I would hate to have to buy another one.

Thanks again!

The only bad part is firing the dead coyote shot to test the visible, IR and eotech...I can count the money after each shot.

I think 40 yards dead on for the pattern is a good range.

I also suggest setting the pattern at 15-20 yards then move back to make final settings. This will save on ammo.

putting the laser at 12 o'clock saves range time.

Now with the helmet if I could just get the ps32 on one eye and the pvs 14 on the other. With the helmet rig I also suggest having the hands always free for the shotgun.

If i use the flir i try to let it drop inside my coat on the lanyard so i can swing or move the shotgun...What stinks is when I lose them in the pvs 14 and then have to go back to the flir it causes lots of noise, time and movement to get busted.
