IR laser for night hunting?

Looked at a few IR lasers but really could not see where they would work for night hunting. They were very expensive. Does anyone use one here ? I have D740 gen 3 for night hunting with a T20 copy from ebay.

I've got a handful of them and use them all for hunting at one time or another. what ones are you looking at in particular? for budget minded laser that will do anything you need to the lasermax uni-ir is great. I use one still on my pistol but works great on long guns too

that's an illuminator not a laser

IR laser mounted on the gun is for when your night vision gear is head mounted. You point the gun via the laser without looking through any optics on the gun.

Your 740 is a weapon mounted night optic, correct? That would make a laser a bit pointless for you unless you have head mounted nods as well.

That is why I asked the question ............. Why a laser..........................................

Now this makes some sense!

Ihave a PVS14 and thought about a laser/illuminator for hunting, but worry that it will be too imprecise for aiming at relatively small game. See the value for hogs.

Why worry?

I shot this coon with my IR laser @ 175 yards:

Tree is 175 yards where I shot the coon:
