IR laser pointer

I'm kicking around the idea of mounting an IR laser pointer to my FLIR PS32 to help the shooter find the animal through the NV scope. Anyone here ever tried that?
Any suggestions on a particular laser is appreciated. It would need to be fairly compact and preferably in the $200 price range.
I am also thinking about buying a head mounted PVS14 and if I could put the laser on my shotgun, assuming that it would handle the recoil, that would be a plus. Aimshot has one that they say can be shotgun mounted but I have never actually seen it in use.

I'm pretty sure my LS64 has a laser pointer built in. Being used for LE, the pointer is used to point out the bad guy. For guys who hunt with a partner I can see the use. I always hunt alone, so for me it is meaningless.

I don't have the LS64. And the specs on the LS64 do not give the wavelength of the laser pointer so I'm thinking that it might be a visible laser. I want a laser in a wavelength that is only visible through night vision. Preferably something between 805nm and 850nm.
I've just started looking at the Steiner OTAL but I don't think that it is rated for a shotgun. $500.00 is too much money for a laser that I could only use as a pointed for the FLIR. There must be less expensive options for just an IR pointer.

Look at the UNI-IR from lasermax. It's the smallest most compact one that I know of and it's supposed to be pretty good. Full disclosure though, never used one myself but it's on my list.

Waiting on a PVS (ordered). I have the CT Rail Master in IR (week ago) and I'm not sure what to expect myself.

I use lasers on two pistols(since 2007) but this will be my first experience with an IR laser, NV and shotgun.

I paid $200.00 for the IR (free batteries for life) but DVOR has different models on clearance ranging in price $107 on up today.

Here is a invite link if anyone is interested in checking out DVOR (daily deals):

Thanks for the link. I was not aware that they are now making an IR model.
Please post a review when you get your PVS14 in and set up. I'm really wanting add a shotgun to our night hunts.
I bet that little Rail Master would be nice under the FLIR as a pointer too. All I would have to do would be to cut a short rail section and screw it onto the 1/4x20 hole on the bottom of the FLIR.
You've got me thinking this might be a good option.
If it's not too much trouble, don't forget the review, I'll be watching for it.

I tried it with an aimshot IR laser. The biggest problem that my partner and I have is that the thermal will see the coyote but it is hard to pick up in the night vision. I will be buying the lasermax IR it looks to be just the ticket. If you go down this road please let us know if it works well. Randy

Did you try the Aimshot mounted on a shotgun, or mounted on the thermal?
What was your experience with whatever set up you used?

I received a shipping notice yesterday for my PVS.

I'll post up my thoughts but will not give my overall opionion until I have used it in the field and range several times.

Here are a couple videos (part 1 &2) for the CT Rail Master IR:

I've seen those videos. It looks like sometimes the actual beam is broken up, but the dot is very visible. Does anyone know if the beam is truly visible through NV, or does there need to be particulates in the air (gun smoke, dust, fog, etc. to help detect the light beam? Not a big deal either way because the spot is so visible but I'm just wondering.
I'm really hoping that the Crimson Trace IR will work as advertised.

The concept of adding a designator to the FLIR works great, in my opinion. I haven't tried your laser method, but I put a IR Evolva T20 on a rail under my PS32 and with the flashlight zoomed in it makes spotting whatever the FLIR picks up very quick and requires little communication.

As bright as the CT IR looks, I wonder if the cheaper ones will wash out or obscure the target at distance. I know Skypup has posted about putting some type of filter on his laser(s). You could always offset the laser from the center of the Flir viewfinder using the windage/elevation adjustment if it did become a problem.

My other "wonder" was if the dot would get lost among the other "dots" from other distant yard/house/tower lights that always seem to be present. If the beam was always visible like you were talking, then that would be alleviated.

Interested to see how it works when you get it set up!

I had it set up on my thermal. I have a HD38s and it has a place on the side that has a plastic portion of rail so I mounted it tight there. It worked but the laser only lasted 2 trips and now won't light up. I usually hunt with my buddy and the hardest part is communicating where the coyote is. The thermal sees it but it is hard to see in the night vision (gen 3 PVS4). It did work so I will be getting the lasermax down the road most likely.
