Iranian Uprising

If it were just about “taking oil or stuff,” the math doesn’t hold up — the U.S. spent trillions in Iraq and Afghanistan, while Afghanistan has no significant oil to take and Iraq’s oil stayed under Iraqi control and global markets, not U.S. ownership. Modern geopolitics is about security, influence, and containment, not simple resource theft — because if it were profit-driven, these wars would be financial wins instead of decades-long costs.

Yes, plenty of people make money when wars drag on. That’s been true in almost every war.But people profiting from a fire doesn’t mean they started the fire — it means they learned how to sell hoses while it burns.

We have a lot of foreign influence over our elected officials too. The lobby of "our greatest ally" is pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into our government officials and political campaigns to get what they want instead of what is in the best interests of the United States to the point they are effectively capturing and dictating our middle east foreign policy. They don't like that when it is brought up or pointed out.
Follow the money. Israel pumps millions if not billions into both parties

"Modern geopolitics is about security, influence, and containment, not simple resource theft " Try again - you lose. Who found and developed oil in the middle east? There is NO modern geopolitics, same old, same old stuff. Maybe one should look at the tactics of Nam, Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan. Why did we get into those wars? Or WWI and WWII - our civil war, Morman wars, Ottoman war, Catholic wars, etc.

You mocked “modern geopolitics” and then cited wars from the last century and earlier.

That’s like denying smartphones exist because telegraphs used to.

Modern power isn’t always conquest — it’s controlling systems: trade routes, finance, sanctions, and strategic chokepoints. You’re using old wars to explain a world that moved on.

there is not going to be immediate relief today, not unless you turn the region into a sheet of glass and that's not realistic.
Supposedly, we don't need their oil so, why not ship out and just leave, the rest of the world hates us anyway, unless we're giving them money.
They started this without a plan for a regime change so it's no surprise, we're here.
If memory serves me correct, there were 3 generals fired within a week, that has been some weeks back, someone screwed this up out the gate by overlooking the Strait of Hormuz.
No one wants a long endless campaign

We 'shipped' out for 47 years, Israel tries to stop their nuke weapon program. If Israel had 'shipped out', Iran would have (nuke?) ICBMs aimed for US. Just like Cuba. Just like N/ Korea, China and Russia. Hmm.

supposedly we destroyed their nuclear, so what's the point in staying. that was the initial objective?

Im betting Big T wants the nuclear material. Guess whats coming to the US, Venezuelan uranium !!

We have not left yet because of the world wide strife this debacle has caused like many past wars.

Little bit of history. Germany after WWI had major restrictions on it's military. But (known to the west and IGNORED) developed stuff secretly. Used Auto Union and others to develop AC engines and fuel. Japan was at war with China (and we supported China) also joined Germany and get a lot of development stuff from Germany. Japan was running out of oil for the WAR in China, not home front stuff. NATO was to keep the military organized, UN(remember UNESCO) started to 'feed' the world. EU was invented to steal $ from everybody. Keep sticking your head in the sand.

Fall of Kabul — the U.S. told the Afghan army it was time to stand on its own. As fast as we pulled out, they folded and the Taliban took the country.

Northern Iraq offensive — ISIS swept across Iraq, and Iraqi troops abandoned posts so fast many ditched their uniforms and ran.

Years of training. Billions in equipment. Embedded advisors. Blue-on-green attacks during the mission. And that was the result.

So now we’re supposed to believe the same playbook suddenly works inside Iran — faster, from hundreds of miles offshore, under worse economic pressure?
starting to see a pattern? lets complete it. al quieda now runs syria because we got rid of assad and destabilized the country, causing a mass humanitarian crisis. the muslim brotherhood runs egypt, because we promoted the arab spring. The taliban runs afghanistan. Trillions wasted in Iraq or fake WMD's is our intervention in hindsight created a better or worse situation for us and them? WORSE. While a lesser involvement, gaza has been leveled. At what point should we say to ourselves, WE are the problem? Also if you look back on this thread, I predicted Iran would be in no hurry to end the conflict. I still say that. The longer the conflict goes the more negative it is for us. Meanwhile I was at the roofing supply house yesterday all shingles going up 10% june 1st. My flights for my family vacation have been canceled, so we have to rebook paying probably an extra 1000 bucks. Its $70 bucks extra each time I fill up my truck. Who's winning the war? not us,

It was all predictable. Worse people have replaced the dead people running Iran. everything we touch turns to shit. I hate saying this as a red blooded american and indeed in the past I supported many if not most of the foreign interventions at the time. But I simply can't ignore outcomes of the past with hindsight.

mcgregor"s not correct on everything but he isn't boring to listen to. Ukraine is another exercise in dumbassery. Putin is made out to be darth vader. He is actually a pretty pragmatic leader. YES he probably stepped on a few heads to gain power in the first place. He doesn't want ukraine. He wants to protect eastern ukrianians who are ethinic russians. Westerners forget that western ukraine fought for the Nazi's in WW2. these tensions are still there and western ukraine persecuted the ethinic russian part of their country for decades. I have talked to a women who left the donbas area in the early 90's. That war with ukraine was and is never winable. frankly its not meant to be. Its a massive money grift. Money goes out of one pocket then back to the pockets of the politicians.
