Iron sights for a R 15

I have a brother that has a R 15 and wants to put iron sights on it. I have looked on LaRue Tactical and a few more web sights and really have not found any sights that are easily fitted to the barrel without changing out a lot of parts or changing out the hand guard. It looks as if he will have to spend what a heck of a nice scope would cost just to put iron sights on this thing would cost. Any websites or help in this matter would be appreciated.

I had iron sights on my 18" R-15 for a short time so I could shoot some CMP matches while I waited to get my DCM gun back. I used a DPMS detachable carry handle ( about $80 ) and a YHM front clamp on gas block/flip up sight ( http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=472245 also about $80 ) Be aware I think the R-15 has a A-3 upper so I needed an extended front sight post to get the rifle zeroed,I'm not positive and it could have also been just my gun so try it first.

One option is to install a railed gas block then use one of the flip up sights made for gas blocks. Looks like they are out of stock at YHM.

The other option is to install a gas block/sight combo. There a few good gas block/folding sight combos out there. PRI makes an excellent one but a little spendy....

Wilson Combat carries the YHM front flip sight. I bought both my front and rear from them.

Might as well get a new upper setup with handle and front sight. He's gonna be getting in the same neighborhood pricewise no matter how he does it.

peace.

Thanks for everyone's replies I really think he would be better off just putting a EoTech on it and forgetting the open sight idea but we will see which way he want's to go. Thanks again.
