Is a 400 yd + Shot Really That Hard???

custom built Remington 260, this is the 6th dog i've taken over a quarter mile this year with this rig... i WILL get a legit HD video LR kill sooner or later (when i say LR i am talking 900yds+), just waiting for the opportunity... i have the scope calibrated, rings lapped, the base bedded, the action bedded, custom barrel, action blue printed, lugs lapped, worked up the most accurate load i could, i've ran the ballistics, and trued my trajectory via the POI method as well as BC tweekage, and most importantly i have over 1k rounds down this rifle since the end of june, so i am getting a little trigger time with it... this weapon system is now capable of making first round hits from 400 to 1200 on an MOA target, "if" i can do my part...
i will be rephrasing another post in the distant future, asking, is a 800+ yard shot really that hard??? along with some still shots of the kill taking place!!!

I dont think a 400yd shot is that hard. I have not taken a yote at that distance but I do shoot at that distance when I go to the range and I am a clay pigeon slayer @ 400yds with my 22-250......

I regularly kill orange pigeons @ 400 at the range with my Stevens .223.

400 seems like a long way until you shoot it a lot. It's still a long way if you have to walk back and forth to a paper target

Great pic sequence, congrats!

btw, 400 os do-able for me, but I definitky don't think its easy and have missed my fair share at 400+

Two years ago I made a 710 yard shot on a yote, hit him square between the eyes, the 52 grain A-max only penetrated the skull with very little brain cavity penetration, it killed the yote immediately. Two weeks ago I shot a yote on a dead run (Straight away) at 423 yards. I spend a lot of time at the range and have well over 2500 rounds through the gun. I will be the first to admit there was a great deal of luck with both kills, but I would rather be lucky than good anytime.

That's some nice shooting. You hit the nail on the head with your time behind the trigger comment. I need to spend more time doing that...

Nice shooting. A 400 yard shot can be hard for a lot of people. But if you practice, and know what your doing it's no problem at all. Congrats!

Why all the hate towards Skinny? That stuff isnt just "given" to him. He has to prove himself and EARN it. I had been in the waterfowl industry for a while and had been "given" all my stuff. It takes alot of proving yourself before sponsors just dish out high dollar products. Have you guys ever tried to video your own hunts? IM sure some have tried, but have you been sucessful? Ya a 400yard shot isnt a terribly difficult shot but can you make the shot and run a video camera? After reading his stories and watching his clips even is clips from the range, he has done his homework. He knows his firearm, how to read coyotes, knows all his ballistics, and has top notch footage. SO why try to cut the guy down?

Like Clint Eastwood says" Mans got to know his limitations". So if you have a capable cartridge and take the time to learn it 400 and beyond is not a problem. this makes it REALLY fun.

And a 10,000.00 setup is not needed. Great shooting.

How on earth did that come off as an attack...
Is it insulting to point out that he's paying for a quality setup...?
My god, you just looking for a reason to be offended or what?

If you've sat behind a custom rig, fit for you, you would know it assists in accuracy, obviously, that is a big part of why you pay for it.

400 yds to me is fairly close range. I do lots of pratice to 600 yrads with all my varmint & coyote rigs, have my dials marked & a sticky taped to my scope for fast info in the field.
The main thing to me is just doping the winds after that.

You also have to remember they were shooting off sticks not prone with a bi pod!

Why no video??

But to answer your question NO a 400 yard shot on a coyote is not hard! Yes 800+ is a little bit more work but I want video of the kill not just pictures!

All of my 400+ yard shots have been easy..........

Heck, that shooting is easy. It's the hitting that's the hard part....I haven't hit a dang thing!

Hats off to you who have killed a coyote at that distance.

Way to go skinney!

nice shooting skinny. 400 is about my max comfortable range. i've shot em farther but just with luck.

That Skinney is one focused son-of-a-gun... to work with one rifle setup all that time in preperation for upcoming coyote season... and then pulling off some good shots with it... gotta just love dedicated hunting accuracy...

Bench accuracy is ONLY half of it...my wife can do it from there... but hunting accuracy is a WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY.

WOW... Hats off...

Wish it was me standing there in that Ghillie telling my story..

Great set-up and nice shooting. I know how hard it can be just to get in-stand photos, let alone trying to video yourself. Great work, lets see the video
