Is a Camelbak pack any good?

Hey guys.
I've been looking around for a smaller pack to carry my stuff, mainly to keep things organized and handy. I don't use an e-caller so I don't need a big pack. Just something to carry hand calls, binos, gloves, headnet and maybe a jacket. No day long trips or anything.
It's not a lot but it weighs down my pants almost to the point where I need suspenders. I've tried a fanny pack but don't like that either.
The Camelbak Striker caught my eye as a good size backpack.
Does anybody own a Camelbak and how do you like it?

I own a Camelback pack. Not sure what model, but it has held up very well. I recently purchased a MOLLE surplus pack that came with an "assault pack" about the same size as my Camelback. REALLY like this pack, it has a compartment for hydration bladder, plus you can add grenade pouches etc (for those really tough coyotes). Check on Ebay under MOLLE gear. I think you can pick one up surplus, unissued for under $30 w/ shipping maybe cheaper if you hunt around. I think you'll find the MOLLE gear more affordable and versatile. I also have a MOLLE vest/suspender type rig (similiar to the old ALICE type suspender system that has all kinds of little pouches and pockets I really like. If you'd like to see pics drop me a PM.

I have the exact one that you are talking about. I really have 2 of them. one is for bowhunting and the other one is for calling. It is large enough to hold my e-caller and jack-n-box and all of my handcalls, shooting sticks, rangefinder, extra batteries, gloves, and headnets. I really like it.

Thanks.
I knew somebody here would know about them.
I just wanted something not too big, not too small and good quality.
It's kinda tough trying to buy something unseen. Some of the manufacturers websites don't describe their products very well. I coulda just gone to WalMart and got an El Cheapo pack but I wanted something better.
I couldn't stand it so last night I ordered both the Camelbak Striker and the Badlands Hyper Hydro. They are very close in size and features.
I'll keep the one that suits me the best and send the other back.

+1 on that Camelbak Striker. I bought one last year and am very happy with it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I got the Camelbak Striker yesterday and the Badlands Hyper Hydro will be here today.
After checking out the Striker I was surprised to see that it has a lot more room and pockets than I expected. The daisy chain webbing on the back is nice if I want to strap on shooting sticks or something. It'll hold all of my stuff for short hunts unless I would need to carry a heavy coat or insulated coveralls.
The material it's made of is quiet and looks to be pretty tough. The hydration bladder wasn't a concern and I won't even be using it since my hunts are an hour or less. I'll just remove it and put it up somewhere.

I've read that Badlands makes a great pack. Who knows I might like the Hyper Hydro even better.
I'll compare the two tonight and see how they stack up against each other and keep you posted.

I have the Striker too and its my favorite pack. I hardly ever use the water bladder either. The bag has a good setup. I think Dicks has them for about $65.00.

Well, I got the Badlands pack yesterday. It's a very well made pack and the Max-1 camo looks really good too.
Compared to the Striker, it has fewer pockets and they're not as deep or accessable. The main compartment is smaller, not as deep and would not hold my jacket.
The wide carry straps are nice and the waist belt is wider than the Striker.
After comparing both packs and features I decided to keep the Camelbak. It's almost perfect.
Sent the Badlands back today for a refund.

Add me to the Camelbak list. I've been useing their military styles for close to 10 years and I've been nothing but impressed. I've got a hawg that I've been using at work for the last 2 years and it's been used and abused but is no worse for the wear.

I use the BFM during coyote hunts because it carries everything I need ie. caller w/remote , extra ammo, water, food. During the summer I use the Motherlode. I used the BFM during my tour in Iraq. I have never had problems with either one.

i have the largest one i believe and its awesome. holds 3l of water in the bladder and its super comfortable and holds alot of stuff. put a hot seat or other cushion in the flip down seat for added comfort.

got it for $100 canadian at a hunting show because they didnt have any left and the rep didnt want to take it back with him. he likely pocketed the money but i could really care less as i got a great deal.

Great packs! I love mine...I got the smallest one for water, first aid and a few calls. I can lash a jacket on and go. I might get a bigger one too for when I need a few more items.
