Is it possible to call too much at a set

I don't usually mute until they are 100yrds and closing.. Usually they come to a stop at 75 which is perfect. If they are coming hard they will stop just before they commit to the call and that is when they get the shotgun.

I've had my best luck using hand calls with MN dogs. It tends to be fairly in your face smaller spots. If I get to a wide open area down in the southern or western part of the state then I let the caller call, only pausing when I change sounds. I will always finish a set with a hand call though.

That's just a rough estimate. I want them in the 150 yd range. The closer they get the more chance of spooking due to inadvertant glare, or some other cause. We are often sitting on the side of a hill with nothing to hide us, I don't want them running in real close.
