Is my e-caller just no good?

Ive tried about 5 different stands with my caller...I know coyotes are around I see them alot while deer hunting. The caller I have is the JS Predator One...cheapo but its all I got. I think this caller sounds ok maybe it just isnt loud enough? Ive only been able to bring in an Owl and and few deer...Yesterday I tried making the homemade e-caller shown on the site, my local RS had everything but the PH so I just used some home audio speakers I had already...First Impression was that it was a little louder than the JS caller, but sounded awful...lots of pops and cracks and white noise. I have the sounds from a Lohman predator cd uploaded on my ipod. I know alot of people will probably say get a FoxPro or some big fancy caller but unless someone is donating that is probably out of the question.

I have a JS Preymaster and no complaints on quality, sounds, or ability.

My shortcoming is my technique when the Yotes are available, or hitting the north end of their range when they are in the south /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When you are deer hunting and see them, what are you doing? Try doing the same when you are after the dogs, just employ the caller on a distress call, softly and keep doing what you are doing.

Lack of Patience is the greatest enemy, movement the second.

My caller isnt the Preymaster...I said cheap I meant I went cheap...

Well usually while deer hunting Ill just be doing the normal...sitting and waiting. I feel like I have the patience...I always hear not to stay at one stand for longer than 20 mins and I always end up being there for at least 45 mins. Is it ok to try more than one call at a stand? Like switch from say cottontail distress to a bird distress? Or mouth call too e-caller? If its ok to do that maybe I could use my mouth calls for longer distance and the e-caller when I could see them to keep my movement down.

Yep, it's just fine to switch up sounds. Even works to play two sounds at once.

Five dry stands is nothing at all, have patience.

My friend has the Johnny Stewart Attractor. It sounds good, it lacks volume for some terrain and windy conditions, but it works well when used with a mouth call. We gave one or two series on a loud open reed then let the Johnny Stewart Attractor play. We were hunting in very windy conditions. Like Leon said "five dry stands is nothing at all, have patience".

Hey everyone, I went out that evening....Nothing. Went out to the same place next morning and two yotes showed up. I only saw one until I shot and then the other exposed itself...If I would have reloaded faster..TC Encore...I might have been able to get the other, but when I saw that one running I thought I had missed so I was just kind of shocked. When I first got there I waited a bit for some more daylight then turned on the e-caller. I also added a couple sequences from my hand calls during the calling. The one I shot was a nice male. Ill try this pic thing.

I have that ecaller..Yep its definitely a cheaper end caller but I am finding that it works quite well considering LOL
I find it quite loud LOL. The rodent and cotton tail calls can be heard alot further off than you might think...Not counting real windy conditions of course.
Is it possible the coyotes are seeing you before you see them? Maybe getting downwind and catching your scent?

Wow! Looks like you really scalped him. It's awesome when you get your first one. I use a Remington 22-250 and love it. It's a great caliber for yotes.

Congrats, fun aint it!!!!!! Just one ?, are you laying your caller on the ground? If you are, try getting it up in a tree, or a few feet off the ground, your sound will "travel" further. You don't have to have a loud to get them in close.

Excellent!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Congrat's! It seems to get easier now. You may have dry spells but keep it up.I'm lucky to get one in 10 to 15 stands. That's why they call it hunting and not killing. You gotta love huntin' 'em. Nice looking coyote!
