Is Sport Wharehouse going broke?

I was at the Thorton CO SW yesterday and they had plenty of stock. Two weeks ago they didn't have a single LR primer of any brand in stock. I know the reloading isles were packed with guys yesterday so that may be adding to the lack of supply.

While that may be true Jeff, BassPro's selection here in Vegas SUCKS! They use to have a rather large selection of reloading supplies when they opened. It has shrunk considerably. Nearest Sportsmans is in St.George UT. about 3 hrs North of here.
 
The stores in Memphis area are very short on primers but they seem to be ok on everything else. Granted, I don't know if "what you see is what they have".

I have heard about the stocking of all the stores being centralized in Utah. The clerks have told me repeatedly that they have no clue what is going to be on the truck when it pulls up. Seems to me like this ain't a very good way to stock a national chain???
 
j. holly where did you hear that? i wnet to sportsmans and the rcbs supreme kit was $279 at bass pro it is $399...i swear this is the real price at bass pro. i argues with them and told them what i thought about thier price gouging and they said they would price match anyone and i said it should not have to be price matched it should already be competitively priced. then i left and bougth the same kit at a new walmart we got, it has a reloading section, i could not belive it. wallyworld had it for $259
 
Reloading powders and primera are way way cheaper at sportsmans than anywhere else at least here in Utah. I can get a 1 lbs bottle of H335 for 16.99 at sportsmans the last I checked and at Cabelas it is 20.99. And the local retailer 19.99.
 
I just bought 10,000 primers for $18 a box about a week ago, so I'm set for awhile! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
I wish we would have a Sportsmans Warehouse come to our area.

Our local BassPro in Hampton, Va. is a SORRY store when it comes to Guns, ammo & reloading equip. & Supp.

With the exception a of a few cans of Powder and a few Primers, they don't carry any reloading equipment or components at all. And their Guns and Factory ammo prices are much higher than a lot of other places.

They wanted over $100.00 more for a Tikka T-3 Hunter than I gave my FFL dealer for one a couple of months ago. And they won't budge on their prices either.

I was so excited when they first came here a couple of yrs. ago, but now I just take my gun & ammo business elsewhere.

Prices on their other hunting stuff ain't all that bad though.

Well it’s rather strange the reloading components market seems to be drying up. Just look around. The things that are available the prices have gone up 15 to 25%. Lots of folks don’t seem to have bullets or primers. An example is 50 Gr. TNT’s a year ago you could by the big economy pack (1000) for $70 and some change now they are over a hundred. The powder I use was $80 for eight pounds about 4 weeks ago is now $99 or higher if you can find it? Something funny is going on and when we find out what that is my guess is you won’t like it.
 
The store in Tri Cities, WA I noticed is low on some things as well, inparticular primers... I went and was going to buy some winchester primers, well they were all out except shotgun primers. They still had quite a bit of bullets/powder though...I hope Sportsmans dont go broke, thats my favorite store!!
 
On a sidenote, my local Sportsmans is usually a couple dollars more per pound of powder, and on bullets then my walmart or bi mart. Our local bi mart actually has a pretty good supply of bullet/powder/primers, youd be surprised. Sportsmans wants like $19 for Hodgons powder, I can get it for like $18 at bi mart and save 60 miles. Also at sportsmans there 257" 100g NBT's are like $13.50. At bi mart, there $11.50.

I dont like all this reloading stuff going up...I'm sure neither of you do either. I guess its still a heck of a lot cheaper then buying factory, but jeez they keep jacking up all this reloading stuff. Its already expensive enough.
 
Sportsmans in Riversale has been real bad for a while about restockin when they are out of something. Has been going on for over a year. I am starting to get real disappointed in them. I know the bullets for reloading the 22 cal is a result of the manufactures being geared up for the war. Heard that from speer.
 
As for Bass Pro, I have never been impressed with their selection. I think Sportsmans Warehouse is head and shoulders better than Bass Pro. The Sportsman Whse in Chattanooga, TN is excellent. I would rather shop there than the BP in Nashville, TN.
 
With a war on, it stands to reason that temporary shortages could occur. That and the Commies buying up copper, tin and lead. useing up the reserves we have.
 
Winchester and ATK(Federal) are using their capacity to fill government contracts, so they have very little capacity left. Remington does not have the same level of government contracts, but they are currently running at full capacity to supply complete ammo to the market. Why sell it as components if it will run your complete product line short?

As was stated, suppliers trying to fill government contracts and the prices/supply of metals is really starting to show up on the shelf.
 
A Bass Pro moved into the Cincinnati area about 7 +/- years ago and started out with a fair reloading department. The local go to store for every thing gun/hunting and reloading related called "Relos" decided to close as they thought they saw the writing on the wall. In the past year of so the Bass Pro has removed all reloading supplies from their shelves. A pualtry selection of powder is all they have behind the counter. No more bullets, no more primers, no brass, NOTHING! I look on those type of mega outdoors stores as little more than a urban sportsman's playground. The Mom and Pop stores that had what we needed are fast loosing ground to the stock driven corporations. Shame.
 
Well, I'm not too sure. Most people I know, when talking about .22 lr ammo, will use the terms "target" and "plinking" interchangeably.

Now perhaps if you'd asked for "match" ammo, or even perhaps mentioned a brand name such as Lapua or Eley, you might have gotten the answer you were looking for. Remember, these folks field a lot of stupid questions every minute of the day.

E.g., I watched a guy saunter up to a gun counter in a local store and here was the conversation...

Guy- Hey, I need some deer bullets.
Owner- Bullets, or loaded rounds?
Guy- Huh?
Owner- Never mind, what caliber?
Guy- It's a Marlin.

At this point, I had to leave because I didn't want to laugh in the guys face.

The point, if you want better answers, ask better questions.

I've been mostly a big bore shooter. Just got a fancy Ruger 10/22 and asked if they had any target (meaning higher quality ammo than Wal-Mart $11/brick of 500. He said sure, starts at $11/500, obviously doesn't know diddly as top quality Lapua is closer to $9/box of 50. So much for great advice from the counter. Don
