Is the .222 a good coyote round?

A friend of mine will give me a .222 bolt action rifle for free if I want it. Don't know many details about it yet. I did shoot it last summer and it would hit eggs at 50 yards. Just wondering if the .222 is a decent coyote round. I already have a .223 and if it's night and day better I won't bother with it.
 
I would say your 223 would be better but you can send me the 222 if you want

I've awlays liked the 222 its a fine varmint caliber and its FREE so what you got to loose.

Like others have said its free so jump on it, I have owned a couple and presently have a CZ 527 American they are very accurate and a joy to shoot so it would be hard for you to go wrong.
 
Thanks. Going to meet at the range on Monday and go shooting. Free is a good price. Only stipulation is I have to let him use it if he ever want to. Don't believe he's had it out since we went shooting last.
 
A 222 is very hard to beat accuraucy wise.. I have one in a CZ and it is virtually a tack driver.. I have killed quite a few coyotes with mine..
 
The 222 Rem. was the most dominant benchrest cartridge @ 100 and 200 yds. until the 22 ppc and 6 ppc cartridges came out! It uses less powder than the 223 and has slightly shorter range capabilities, but is renowned for its accuracy. I have one that is in a Rem. 788 action, glass bedded, Canjar trigger and it's my favorite prairie dog gun. Go for it.....
 
.222 is a GREAT all around varmint/predator gun. As stated above, your .223 is a little more capable on coyotes etc. at longer range. I have a savage 340 .222 cut to 18" that I use as my "truck gun"... Its a great little gun.
 
Going to meet him at the range tomorrow. Once i get a look at it I'll report back specifics. Brand, twist rate, ect. Mabey get some ideas on factory ammo to try with it...

got an old savage in .222 and its an ok shooter. i picked it up from a buddy for 200 bucks so free is definatley a dang good price. post some pics of the rifle and some froups wehn you get it.
 
You won't know much of a difference between your .222 and .223 on anything under 300 yards. Especially if you're handloading yourself. For $0, it's definitely worth the price.

hi if its free take it the 222 is a very good round 19.5 reloader7 AND 5o grain v max drops foxes on the spot.i have also used it on the small deer types in the uk very effectiv at sensible ranges and with groups under 3/4.cant go wrong .
