Is the 6.5 Creedmoor done?

I got a book, poster, and decal today from Hornady. The poster had was advertising the 6.5 PRC.

Anyone know anything about the cartridge yet?

I guess this needs moved, didn't realize I posted in the wrong forum.

The 6.5 Creedmoor won't be going anywhere...but you can bet there will be quite a few on the used rack soon due to this newer and cooler round. It is basically a 6.5 SAUM of sorts.

I looked it up and it seems like its gonna be a barrel burner, claiming 2910fps with a 147 eld-m.

Looks like I'm gonna stick with the Creedmoor.

Get the skinny on Precision Rifle Blog. The creedmoor is here to stay. It is on the shelf at wal mart. They have 6.5 creed but no 708 around here. Limited selection of 708 at academy here but plenty of 6.5.

Excuse my ignorance but with the exception of the "hot new round",is there anything in the practical hunting world the 6.5 does the 260 didn't?
I genuinely am asking and not trying to start a war.One of my neighbors told me years ago when I asked him about a new cartridge "there are men who lay awake at night trying to figure new ways to get your money".

And they're doing a fine job at it too.

NO, just can't find 260 on the shelf around here.

Ask yourself, when was the last time Remington promoted the 260?

Then ask, when was the last add you saw for the Creedmoor in general? Now they are out with a 6mm, and soon a 22 Creed. It's called hustle. You have to work for those dollars.

Nothing new under the sun, but, I think the Creedmoor design is much better than the half azz effort Remington put into the 260. Just my o2.

Its not so much the cartridge, but the package. The 260, the 243, and the 22-250 standardized on slow twists and short, stubby bullets. What the Creedmoor family has done is nothing revolutionary....

Hornady, with no small amount of help from Ruger, popularized the fast twist, High BC bullet model in the 6.5. This trickled down to the 6mm, and hopefully soon to the .22. Coupled with relatively inexpensive, high quality ammo, a star was born. Had they tried to simply throw fast twist barrels on the 260, or 243, there would have been tons of Uncle Eds and Cousin Franks pitching a fit because that fancy Hornady ammo won't shoot in their old deer rifle, or that new fangled rifle just wont shoot them light bullets they always shot.

I honestly think that the 6.5 creedmoor is head and shoulders better than the 260.... shorter powder column, sharper shoulder, and industry backing like a Republican candidate.... can’t say a deer can tell a difference, but I shoot year round and burn a LOT of powder. I can see the difference in the two.

I mostly shoot my 6.5 Creedmoor with 120 grain bullets over p-dog towns out to 600 or so, then I switch over to 140 grain bullets. With a 120 A-Max over 45.0 of H4350 I get 3050 fps with a 26 inch tube. My old .260 with a 26 inch tube got a little more with 46.5 of H4350. Difference in velocity was more about the barrel than the cartridge.

Stepping up to 140 A-Max my 6.5 Creedmoor gives me 2710 fps with at or close to max with H4350. Never shot .260 with 140 A-Max, but on line reloading data indicates I should expect to be within 10 fps with the same barrel length. As we all know, ballistics wise the cartridges are the same.

As others have noted, the 6.5 Creedmoor has a better design, especially for semi-auto rifles. Over the long haul I think the design of the Creedmoor will prove (if it hasn't already) to be inherently more accurate.

As far as being eclipsed by the 6.5 SAUM and derivatives, probably won't happen other than for very specialized use.

Except the 6.5cm is chambered in factory rifles with the proper throating, and the proper twist, and has the proper factory ammo loaded for it....so they can have my money for the 6.5cm...just not the 260...

Dang!! I've really messed up. They have my money for the 260 Rem, for the 6.5x55 Swede, and for the 6.5 Creed.

None of them are perfect in spite of what I hear and read, but I like all of them. Same same with the 6.5-284 and the 264 Win Mag.

Its all hopeless. Woe is me.

That's kind of funny, as I've just come off threads where people crap on the AI rounds for putting on a sharper shoulder but when it's a Creedmoor it's benefit...I sure hope it's done because I'm tired of hearing the arguments about how it is better than so many rounds than can perform the same...I'm sure it's great but the mythical arguments are getting really old. If I wanted a good 6.5mm it would be a 260AI, I'd pass right by the Creedmoor.

Its all hopeless. Woe is me. I resemble that remark. Heck, I got better velocities out of my 6.5X55 loaded long in Lapua brass than I got out of my 6.5-284. Maybe I'll get a 6.5 SAUM 4s to see what it's like to shoot a 6.5X55 in a short, fat case.
