i am looking really hard at getting a high quality e-caller. i love the FX 3 (a few of my friends have them and swear by them) and i was wondering what your opinions/comments about them are?

Yes the FX3 is worth it!The FX5 is worth it that much more the capability of 150 more sounds(and take it from me you will use them) and the new remote makes it that much better, being able to see your sounds at night with the lit up display and a more user friendly remote for $200 more is definately worth it.If all your friends have the FX3 get the FX5 and be the envy of your group. Then just sit back and watch all your buddies get the same caller!Trust me hold out for the FX5 you will be glad ya did!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Yep, come by the house and look at mine if you want. I'm going to try to brave the wind tommorow, might get something. See ya

I've also been tempted to buy a FX3 or FX5. I've been reluctant to do so because of all the problems I've been reading about on their forum. For every "it works great" thread there seems to be three "problems with this or that" threads. Everything from poor battery life, housing failures, speaker volume too low or only one speaker working, remote not working properly, to playing sounds at random. It's a lot of money for me to invest in a caller that might or might not work as advertised. I've stuck with my mouth calls with success. I will give FoxPro credit where it is due, they appear to have the best customer support you'll find anywhere (lots of practice?). All that said, if the tax man is good to us this year I may take the plunge myself. I'm a gambling man.

I first bought a 416B remote. It was a great caller for the money. But, I wanted more sounds available and easier to download my own. So, I sold it and got the FX-3. I haven't regretted it yet. But, as Shaunt said, it might be worth holding out for an FX-5. I hear they are really nice.

The FX-3 is a fine caller, in my opinion. The only problem I have experienced is short battery life. I purchased the rechargeable battery pack for mine, but didn't get as much calling time on a charge as I did on the 416B. That's the only fault I have to it at this point.

The FX-3 is very easy to download your own sounds. I like that feature. Simply hook to your computer and drag and drop. Very easy.

So, to answer your question - YES. In my opinion, the FX-3 is worth every cent I paid for it.

FX3 is the only way to go. if you are going to spend the money by the Rolls Royce and save yourself time and money. Cause eventually if you buy a different caller you will end up in the longh run buying a foxpro any who.HA HA!!! I love mine couldn,t be more happy with it.
Like 6mm said it is so easy to download new sounds for it as well as it is so easy to use. And the best part is that it is everything that it is hyped up to be so how can you go wrong?

My buddy has the FX3, it's what I/we've been using every time out. I did recently order a few hand calls to give them a go, probably good to have a set on you anyway. I like the FX3, from a technical perspective...the only gripes are the battery life...although with 2500 mah rechargeables, I can get a full night of calling out of it...but that is running it long and loud for quite a bit each set.

Sound wise, it does seem very good (from my limited experience). I think the FX5 upgrade (which my buddy will be doing for his FX3) is a great idea. The extra call storage is great (32 is a lot, but you know how that goes...more the better...many times I wish I had a few more to work with using the FX3). The backlit handheld is also great for night hunting, no fumbling with toggling headlamps on and off and whatnot.

It is a pretty penny...I haven't bought my own yet...I'll probably just hijack my buddy's until I really need one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

My hunting buddy purchased the FX5 this season and we absolutely love it! They have a ton of great sounds and several of them are actual recorded animal sounds. We swear by "lightning jack".

If money is an issue I am sure the FX3 would serve you just fine!

Heck yes it's worth it.

The ability to place it a distance awys from me is worth all of the cost, not to mention the ease of putting the sounds I want.

The remote of the FX5 sounds nice, just for the timer and the volume scale, but I can't hunt with lights at night here in MO so the lit display won't do me much good.

I'm sure having 50 sounds is nice, but I get along with 32 and don't use but probably 10 or so, most of the time.

Hunt til it hurts,

Is it worth it? That totally depends upon your viewpoint and wallet. I can tell you this, I really have ejoyed my FX3 since I bought it. And it is effective calling critters.

GC your not using a preymaster?
LOL
I have been hunting with a friend that has a 416b and it works great. I am weighing the extra features on the fx3 and fx5 and thinking about taking the plunge.

I used a JS Premaster last year and it called in critters but unwinding the cord and switching the memory cards made in a pita. So I was looking at a 416 or a 532 with a remote and for the price I decided just to get the FX3 because you can change sounds sooooo easy. I really like the fx3 the only thing is battery life. but i can`t complain otherwise.

I have been calling for many years and was a strong supporter of a good call, prefereable plastic ones as the sound travels more, but after many years and especially open reeds I now found that my ears ring like crazy after a night calling, so I have resorted to electronics.

I have used them for about 2 years now, and still miss my hand calls, I now use them every 5th hunt. Its more personal calling in a cat with a handcall and closing the deal than using an electronic.

BUT now, I as I say resort to electronics more, my first model I owned was a 48, then sold it bought a 416B, and man I love that call, many many jackals never saw the next day because of it. I still have that 416B, it is in my cupboard and whenever I clean my weapons it stares at me, and I think about many encounters we had together - and plenty indeed their was! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif My fastest ever was 35 seconds to call and kill a jackal, from after I checked area before I called the first time, to when we dropped poundage on that trigger - I called for about 15 seconds and he barked at us, I put on the light in his direction and he was standing barking at me at about 30 yards away, had no idea of our presence at all, a great hunt- fast!

My one best month I called and shot 28 black backed jackal with that call, the most was 7 in a night, and have the pictures to prove it.

I then bought a FX3, and after many hunts again many critters will never see the next day. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To me its a tool and must make money for me, but generally yes I think its like this - in South Africa 10 million farmers drive Isuzu trucks, so they cant all be wrong that its the best farm bakkie around - same as Foxpro many have them so are we all wrong? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

You do the math. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

The great thing about the FX3 is that if you like it you can upgrade to the fancier unit for the same cost. I have not upgraded to the FX5 but can see how it would be nice. I of course love playing with the computer and different sounds and am always looking for the next best sound. I made the plunge because my hand calls would freeze quickly and I was moving around a lot tucking them in my coat between calls to try to keep the spit from freezing. The "tested to 40 below" is what sold me on the foxpro. My homemade caller would freeze too easy as well. I posted my results when I first got it a couple of months ago, shot 3 dogs in first 2 hours using the new FX3. I was sold on it at that point.

A couple of my friends bought the FX3, a good unit. I bought the FX5. Everyone I know is upgrading to the 5.

I think the 5's remote is awsome. I have had no problems with the unit. I used it out to 100 yards. It seems to work better if the caller is off the ground when possible.

I'd save my pennys and get the FX5.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

It's best feature is the 4 preset sounds and volumn control. Starting at low volumn on a stand is important. You can look at your remote and see what your sound setting is before you ever hit the mute button.

I have one and wouldnt trade it for any other. I love the size, volume and 32 calls is more than enough for me when out in the field for a day. I typically use 10-15 of my calls and the rest are just in reserve and as a matter of fact I do not believe I have used every call programmed on my unit since I have a dozen faorites I can not break myself from using as they seem to work on pulling coyotes and fox into shotgun range.

I live in a shotgun only area and no shot larger than #1 so we need them close. As a matter of fact I had two gray foxes last nite in close. One at 6yards and the other at 10 yards. I let them walk hoping to call a coyote. I know they will be there next year I see them all the time and I have taken three other grays from the site with my FX3.

I really do like my FX3. I has excellent sound quality at all volume levels and that is important when you are working in wind or coaxing a critter into shotgun range. Battery life is pretty good even in cold weather but invest in a good set of rechargable batteries and take care of them. The volume is awesome. I wish it had a battery life indicater and timer. The timer is available on the FX5. It is really nice that you can customize your sounds and download new ones. I know it seems that everyone jumps on the Foxpro bandwagon here but this is a pretty good product.
