I have been calling for many years and was a strong supporter of a good call, prefereable plastic ones as the sound travels more, but after many years and especially open reeds I now found that my ears ring like crazy after a night calling, so I have resorted to electronics.
I have used them for about 2 years now, and still miss my hand calls, I now use them every 5th hunt. Its more personal calling in a cat with a handcall and closing the deal than using an electronic.
BUT now, I as I say resort to electronics more, my first model I owned was a 48, then sold it bought a 416B, and man I love that call, many many jackals never saw the next day because of it. I still have that 416B, it is in my cupboard and whenever I clean my weapons it stares at me, and I think about many encounters we had together - and plenty indeed their was! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif My fastest ever was 35 seconds to call and kill a jackal, from after I checked area before I called the first time, to when we dropped poundage on that trigger - I called for about 15 seconds and he barked at us, I put on the light in his direction and he was standing barking at me at about 30 yards away, had no idea of our presence at all, a great hunt- fast!
My one best month I called and shot 28 black backed jackal with that call, the most was 7 in a night, and have the pictures to prove it.
I then bought a FX3, and after many hunts again many critters will never see the next day. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
To me its a tool and must make money for me, but generally yes I think its like this - in South Africa 10 million farmers drive Isuzu trucks, so they cant all be wrong that its the best farm bakkie around - same as Foxpro many have them so are we all wrong? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
You do the math. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif
