Is there a difference between Ackley and ackley improved

I am looking to buy a barrel on a website. they list it as a 6mm Ackley. however they have another barrel listed as .280 Ackley Improved. is there a difference between ackley and ackley improved?

No... there are both the same - saying Ackley is just shorthand for Ackley Improved - all the same same.

A lot of improved rounds nowdays are called Ackley Improved even though P.O. had nothing to do with them. His most famous (and rightly so) was the .257 AI but he did many more.

I know of someone that has a 30/06 AI that gets very close to magnum speeds out of it. I would like to have one just to be different. Perhaps it's simply because I am indeed different.

I sure do like my .223 AI. A great performer it is.
