will be moving to Oregon soon and looked in the big game seasons on the website but found only centerfire rifle and archery for deer seasons? is there a muzzleloader season that I am missing or is it time to sell the smoke poles?

thanks dave

Yes there are muzzleloader hunts. The are draw tags, and hence under the "controlled" series hunts. Depending on which area you will be hunting in there are various hunts available. I am from La Grande, and around here there are a few hunts available without driving long distance. Also if I am not mistaken (so dont quote me on it) you can hunt general season with a muzzleloader. Ive heard of people using muzzleloaders because they have had their firearms privladges taken away. Sounds like you just need to make a trip across the river and get you a Paper reg book. Good luck!

The "muzzleloader seasons" have many restrictions. Some of the rules for "muzzleloader only" seasons. (Note) This is only part of the restrictions from the big game regulations.

***Scopes, fiber optic sights, sights that use artificial light or energy, and sights that enhance, gather or concentrate natural light are not allowed during muzzleloader seasons.

***It is illegal to hunt with jacketed bullets, sabots and bullets with plastic or synthetic bases during muzzleloader only seasons.

***It is illegal to hunt with centerfire primers as an ignition source during muzzleloader only seasons.

***It is illegal to hunt with pelletized powders or propellants during muzzleloader only seasons.

As you can see, they have made it a primitive weapons hunt and you can not use the things that many of the new muzzleloaders come with. This is only part of the rules so you need to get a Oregon Big Game Regulations and read it from cover to cover. Good Luck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

sounds like the regs are similar to washington's regs, will get the regs when I go down this weekend , thanks for the info

Welcome Jeep77
I live in Lebanon. There is a good muzzle loader elk hunt called the SW Santiam MZ. 2 friends this year shot a 4 point and a 5 point bull within 2 days of each other. The hunt is about 15 miles or so from you.

I don't belive the muzzleloader is consider a firearm, you don't have to fill out any paper work for it and their not regestired. I have heard of people that are felons goin the muzzleloader route to get around the laws. I could be wrong though.
