Is Under Armour worth the price ?

I was looking into getting some Under Armour Cold Gear Base layers. There are 3 types - Base 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, going from lightest to heaviest for colder weather. I was thinking either 2.0 or 3.0, but the 2.0 is already $50 and the 3.0 is $70. Pretty pricey, but if it will keep me warm, it's worth it. Who's tried it? What are your thoughts and opinions? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
 
I think Under Armour is highly over rated. I know a lot of folks like it. It definitely sucks water from your skin to the point for me that it dries my skin enough to make it itch. The compression material is also uncomfortable if you have any hair on your body, the hair gets caught in the elastic and eventually makes me uncomfortable.

For warmth I have found some reasonably priced Marino wool long underwear at Cabala's. There are IMHO better choices for comfort in the cold.
 
It makes you sweat because it barely breathes. It's way way overpriced and the fools are buying it. Exertion causes sweat and a cold wind on top of it will make you freeze.
 
I have to agree with the others. It is fine if you are sitting all day, but if you are active and work up a sweat it gets real itchy. I like the patagonia clothing much better. It is not tight fitting, it wicks away moisture, and is comparable in price to the under armor.
 
I will be the wierd guy I guess, but I love it. I use the cold gear for everything. One thing I will say about the compression is you either love it or hate it. If you do not like a tight fit do not get it. If that does not bother you then go for it. I think it is worth every penny. I use it for duck hunting, cycling, running, hiking, I take a small towel or dish rag with me, then when I get done with the work-out portion of my hunt I towel myself off then pull the wool or polar fleece out of my pack put in on over my cold gear and am just toasty the rest of the day. Just my 2 cents.
 
I wear it also, and I like it. There are other options if you dont want to pay for UnderArmor, just stay away from cotton.
You get what you pay for.
 
I like the regular style but hate the compression style. Sure beats the old KMart thermal stuff that gets wet and stays wet all day. The Polyprop and silk that Cabelas sells is good too.
 
I really like mine but am not quite sure it is worth what you pay for it. I think the heat gear actually works better at wicking moisture and keeping you cool than the cold does at keeping you warm. Love the heat gear when you are hot and sweaty and there is a breeze man just like an air conditioner. The cold gear is good just a little over rated i would agree.

I have UA and several sets of lightweight, inexpensive thermals I bought from Sam's Club.

Both are 100% polyester and wick moisture away from the skin. Both dry very quickly.

The difference being the Sam's Club thermals cost $18 per set. The UA costs over $40 for one item.
 
I like mine,is it worth the money,not really.Wally world has almost the same outfit for far less and is just as good.
 
i like the polar tech from cabelas does very well for warmth and not nearly as pricey.the price for under armor is crazy, they just have to make enough to pay for all the athletes that wear it to advertise.

Yeah, I agree. I haven't tried the Under Armour, but I've been using Cabelas polyprop tops and bottems for a lot of years, so if you don't go the Under Armour route, that's a good option. I'm hunting the rainforest on the Oregon coast and the mid-weight polyprop keeps me comfortable under just Gore-Tex pant shells and a good Gore-tex jacket.
If you are going to be sitting all day or it's below zero, you might want the heaviest weight. It holds up very well, mine have been washed many times without degrading, which surprises me. I only got a couple of years out of the cheap ones I used to buy before they fell apart.
 
IMHO, NO. If you're going to spend that kind of money, I'd get Thermax/Polarmax expedition wt. poly. I don't like the compression fit. Makes me itch and sweat. I work and play everyday in the mountains above 6500', considering UA and polarmax are basically the same price/pc, there's no comparison in performance.
 
I wear it at work. If you don't like the compression I would recommend the loose fit. May or may not be worth the price but the product is good. Especially the pants.
 
IMO,

UA is way over priced!!! I have been buying the brand Dry-Star at Wally world in the men's section. It is 100% the same stuff just does not have the name. They have the summer weight and the winter base layers. I know a UA base layer cold weather shirt cost around $50. I Just bought today a top and bottom Dry-Star set at the world for $22. I don't need a name to keep me warm I need something that works.
