Jack O'Connor and the .270 - books?

All his books are good reading. The stories I like most are his hunts in the southwest, to me they are the most enjoyable. He will always write about the .270 with biased remarks(even though it is an excellent cartridge), he just pushed that calibre to it's limits, even taken a couple grizzly with it.

I was lucky enough to pick up a First Edition by Jack calllled, I believe, The Rifle Book or The Book of the Rifle, something like that. Still haven't unpacked by hunting books from the move. He has a chapter on the .270 in that book if memory serves me right.

I like all of the nostalgia reading those books.

Thanks for posting this thread. I have been wanting to read some of the articles that have made the .270 the second most popular cal. in the USA. It really is a curiosity, as there are no other .277 cal. cartridges that are even remotely popular. I always hear about Jack O'Connors making it so popular, but never have gotten to read the articles.

I have a copy of The Best Of Jack O'Connor. Has a nice eclectic selection of his works, including some western fiction (not many are aware he wrote western fiction in the style of Louis LaMoure).

I'm a huge fan of the 270, fueled by his articles in Outdoor Life in 60's-70's. The above work has some of his articles from when he was hunting Sonora with the 270 when it first came out. Highly interesting stuff...

I recommend this book...

"Hunting Big Game In North America" and "Game In The Desert" by Jack O'Connor are two classic books and are old favorites of mine.
