I am ashamed to admit that I didn't know, but looking at the 2011 small game booklet I realized Colorado now has a season and bag limit on jack rabbits.
Colorado guys, when did this happen?
You guys in other states have seasons and limits on your jacks?
PS. Looks like it was in effect *at least* last year also. Yikes! Talk about late to the party.
Haha we don't even have jackrabbits! Just a handful of CB Longs and a good light will get momma quite a few Peter Cottontails for the skillet [beeep]...
Here in sunny california we don't have a season on jacks. My son and I start about the end of the school year(june 6).We go on most evenings and blast the longears in all the orchards around here.I am the luckiest guy in california. My backyard is about a million acres.I mean I have access to LOTS of ground. We average about 7-8 jacks an evening before dark.We murder em with centerfire 22 caliber mostly. My farmer friends are very appreciative of our efforts. The jacks will hammer young trees in new orchard plantings.
My little boy starts college at the end of the month.I'm sure gonna miss our shooting trips .

I think this event was held west of Tucson in March. The AZ Chapter of Safari Club International hosts a jackrabbit hunt for kids each year who have little or no hunting experience. It has been very successful and participation grows each year.
So if there Is a bag limit does that mean you have to eat them? In Utah you do not have to eat them thank goodness. I have heard tell of Jack rabbits for dinner back in hard times. I hope I am never struggling that much.
Iowa had a season until this year. Closed it. They are now protected. We only had a small population in the northern part of the state. I haven't personally seen one for years. I shot one about 25 years ago, big as a Shetland pony. We were at hunting camp so I skinned the thing and cooked it on a spit. I swear it looked like I was cooking someone's English Setter.
Stuffed it with onions, lovingly basted it with butter and wine for about two hours. Buddy and I each took one bite, spit it on the ground and went to town for steak. It was *bad*.
The East side of Central Washington used to be overun with jackrabbits. Now you can't hardly find one, hence the seasons on white and blacktail jackrabbits is closed statewide.
montana has no season or limit, shoot em when ya see em. by the way, Jackrabbit back strap soaked in buttermilk over night, then put in a crock and made into stew is pretty dang good.

I don't know about that Bear. Wish I had some old small game booklets from 10/15/20 years ago. But I don't. You happen to have any that go that far back?
I'd bet a fair amount of change that there hasn't always been a season on jacks in CO....Or maybe we were illegal as all get out back in the good old days. We used to kill a lot of summer jacks.
Doggin coyotes I might be mistaken about always being a season on Jacks I just assumed they were included with the season on snowshoe hares. They have had a season and bag limit on them like cottontails, 10 a day with 20 possession. I'll check my reloading room archives I just might have a pamphlet that old.
As with cottontails, Kansas Jack Rabbits are open year-round.
Daily bag is 10.
Possession is 30.
However, compared to the days of my youth, the Jacks are very few & far between. At least here in the north-central part of the state.
I remember taking quite a few, back in the day, w/both .410 & 20 gauge.
