I see the same Will. Back when I lived in the SLV, 6 or 7 guys would line up about 40/50 yards apart and walk the chico brush. Jackrabbits would come running out the other end by the dozens! Lots of cottontails too.

Back when I was really young, I remember going on jackrabbit drives with the *older* folks. They would drop a bunch of guys off in a big circle and when everybody was in position they would all start walking towards each other. Got real hairy when the circle of guys started getting smaller and smaller. I remember jacks galore on those drives. Seemed like hundreds of rabbits.

Just don't see em like that now days. Wonder what happened?

Edit: No season on cottontails in KS will? They're not considered small game?

Oh, there's a "season"...open year-round!LOL
So all ya need to worry about is having a current hunting license; bag & possession limits.

As far as "what happenned?"...I can't really peg it.
Dad used to say that too many people were killing them, & something about they don't breed as often as cottontails. (have no idea if that's true)

I e-mailed the Colorado Division Of Wildlife and asked how long Colorado has had a jackrabbit season and they replied "there has been a season on jackrabbits as long as there has been a Division of Wildlife in Colorado."

That's probably true. I think I remember it being open from Jan. 1st to Dec. 31st... Basically year round

I wish I could find a booklet of the CO small game seasons from back in the 60's. Even 70's into 80's.

You remember when the season on rattle snakes in CO was Jan 1 to Dec 31? That wasn't to long ago. Or maybe it was. The damm years go by to fast!!

Don't they though. Anybody that hasn't eaten them really oughtta' give 'em a try. Believe it or not, it's my favorite game meat right on par with antelope.

Yes I remember when rattle snakes season was "if you see it you can kill it" Heck they put a season and bag limit on Rock chucks a few years ago. Now you are suppose to take them home for consumption. Have you ever skinned one of those stinking things?I did once my hands smelled for a week just could not get that musky smell to go away.About like skunk spray.
