Jagdterrier Training season begins, YA!

Well except the occasional possum or groundhog that has wandered into the acerage and found itself at the wrong end of a Jagdterrier, my 10 mounth old female has yet to see game (or what I would call game). That all changed starting last Saturday.

Had a chance to get Sadie, my 10 mounth old Jagdterrier, on a cage coon. She'd never seen a coon before and this was a big ol' he coon. A real bad a** if you know what I mean. I jumped Sadie out of the truck and after about 5 min. of running around, checking things out, she notices the cage coon. She runs up to the cage and the coon comes unglued. Well Sadie wasn't sure what to think about that, backed up a little and settled into barking at it. That lasted about 10 seconds and the next thing we knew she was tearing into the cage from the outside and the coon tearing things up from the inside. My god were they going at it. We lifted it up a tree with a rope and she went nuts. At one point she got a running start at the tree, ran up it and latched onto the cage with her teeth, just hung there for a couple seconds. We raised the coon up higher and she treed it for a good while, showed no signs of giving up and we finally put her away.

Tuesday night: Had to put new plugs and wires on my truck and got done with it 8:30. Decided on a test drive so Sadie jumped in the truck and off we went. After running down the highway for a few miles I decided to take the gravel roads back. Now keep in mind, I had no plans on a hunt that night. Heck I didn't even have a good light with me, just a LCD headlamp. Well, after about a mile on the gravel road I see 3 coons sitting in the road next to a culvert. They see me coming, one takes off east and the other 2 west. I jump Sadie out, not exactly sure what she would do. She pretty much walked with me down the center of the road till we hit the spot where the one coon had gone east. Boom, she's gone. Into the ditch, though a culvert that went back to the west under the road, and out in the cornfeild she went. She was not opening up a lick at this point so after a couple min of silence I try to call her back in. I hear her coming thru the corn and about the time she get back she opens up. Mind you it wasn't a pretty hound ball, just a short, quick chop and she was off. This time she ran the track pretty open mouth and I was able to track her as she ran track into the feild. She eventually lost it and after about 10 min of silence I started to call her back in.

This season might just be fun.

I have a 1,5 yr olf female. She kills everything. Have you started her on blood trailing. This is there speciallty. Yesterday we had a yote trailing the jadt. It made me nervous by herself. So i ran it down with my dirtbike. I had no gun handy. If you guys know anyone with pups let me know. I am looking for a wirehaire male.

I don't know of anyone with pups but I got mine from Dan @ 712-441-0124. He is in Iowa but has a buddy in Rapid City that also has Jagds and Curs.
