Jeep Wrangler ??

Nice Jeep!

My first new one in '93 was a red one... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I need more room than one affords now, so I drive a Tahoe to work/hunt in.

BUT, the Border Patrol uses the Jeep Rubicon hard tops now, so I might see an "auction" Rubicon sometime in the future.

Those Govt. auctions have some pretty sweet deals if you watch what you are doing.

Thanks for the well wished, Dan. All is well! Been busy battening down the hatches and then lost power, phone & ISP for a spell.

For a fairly minor storm, Dolly did a number on the utility companies. The eye passed about 35 miles north of us. Just heard there are 250,000 w/o power in the Rio Grande Valley. We were very fortunate to have had power until around 7PM last night and it was restored around 2 AM, before winds and rain eased up. Hats off to the Public Utilities folks who worked all night in rough weather to get the job done!

Cable, phone & Roadrunner were out a bit longer. The house didn't really have time to warm up before A/C restored. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

We only got 7.6" of rain in the past 24 hours on already soaked ground; had 9" a couple of weeks ago. Guess the draught is broken.

Back to the jeep, not sure how the rag top & I are going to gee haw. A hard top may be in the future. Took the jeep over to get a couple of cans of gas for my generator before the storm and the back window zipper is a pain, but haven't had a chance to really shake it down yet.

Dan, maybe he meant it was "for (picking up) chicks". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That's very true. I get more women in parking lots etc. making nice comments about my Jeep, than any other vehicle I have owned. My Wife says it just looks studly. The younger, single guys I know who drive nice Wranglers all say that the Jeep "pulls" well, too.

HM1996, if you are in S Texas you might come to appreciate the rag top in the hot sun. You can remove the side pieces, roll up the back window....and if you have the 1/2 doors you can remove those. This way you have the safari top to keep the hot sun off you.

Take some lubricant (I use Marvels) and apply lightly to the zipper for smooth action. My '97 still has the original top...though in need of replacement.

I'm taking mine off today....cant beat jeeps for topless running.

They comment cuz they want to drive it, not you. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
They like em cuz they dont know better either.

Just messin with you guys, drive what gets you around and get you to the huntin hole............even if you do look lame. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Just make sure someone with you has a good toyota so they can jerk you out when you are broke and stuck.

go to napa and ask for a stick lubricant. it a round tube about 3" long that is greasless, almost like wax. rub that on the zippers. 100% better. it also wont stain clothing or anything else.

Good stuff! Used to put it on the leather shoulder pad on my 10X shooting jacket; softens leather and actually makes it "grip" the steel buttplate on an M1 keeping it in place for rapid fire strings. Also great on auto door latches./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Spray silicon works on them as well.

Marvel Oil would be great lubricant as previosly suggested, but there's lots of dust on the ranches I hunt; believe the silicon might be best to keep from attracting dust.

Thanks for the ideas. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

You could take a bar of soap and do just as good. No, I wouldnt use the marvels where you are.....southwest dust and all. Anything is better than nothing. Typically, the zippers that are used on the sides and back are fairly tough.

Enjoy the jeep! And dont forget to wave at other jeepers.

I've used soap on various zippers in the past. Works well.

Ok, here's another question for you guys/gals. What gun racks are you using in your TJ's? I ended up building one for my Z71 because I couldn't find one that worked well for me. Would rather find something that will hold 2 guns securely. If I can pick up one that will mount fairly easily and do the job, would rather go that route.

This one looks like it might mount OK behind the gearshift leaning forward....whatcha think?

I'm just using a hardcase except when travelling on the properties here, then I'll just toss the rifle on the back seat....and that's usually the .22, not the longer barrelled centerfires.

Sorry cant help ya with that.

I do like the idea of the carry rack on the outside you plug into the receiver hitch.....for deer, of course.

The main issue when carrying anything in a jeep is the lack of security.....but you knew that.

I always liked Jeeps and this is my third one, it was last summers project. Of course gas mileage was not considered.

Nice!

How ya liking that Powerplant? They weren't out yet when I bought my winch. Ended up installing a separate OBA system (twin 2.5 CFM 12V's under the hood), but the output of the Warn is very impressive for a 12V compressor. Thinking I might pick up on of the SPI's to replace the two smaller ones I'm running, if I can fit it under the hood.

Good looking rig!

I've had my 99 4.0L Sport for almost 4 years now. This is my first Jeep. If I had to do it over, I would get an Unlimited. That extra 15" in the back would really come in handy, or even one of those new 4 doors! I installed a 2" Teraflex lift w/ RE adjustable track bar, 31" BFGs. I've a mule deer, and 2 javelina in the back of it. Not at the same time! It's my daily driver and trail rig. I drive rather sedately 55-60 max, if I can help it.

My hardtop storage is 4 hooks in my garage with 4 cargo straps. This set up allows me to remove/install my hardtop by myself. Takes about 15 minutes. Ratchets on the straps allow me to work my way around as I take it up.

I've been tracking every fill-up since I've gotten it. I am averaging 19 mpg.
I am very satisfied with my Jeep.

Azcat, nice rig. One thing I added thats not shown is what you have and thats the jack brackett. Sure comes in handy.

Dave, I love the powerplant. I mainly wanted the aircompressor to skin coyotes with but it sure comes in handy when you need to air up the tires too! I do wanna change out the steel cable though.

Nice rigs, RanUtah & azcat.

What kind of rifle racks is everyone using? Not a lot of room to mount; best I have found so far is:

web pageCabela's

I need a two gun rack, think this one would mount behind & between the seats and lean forward over the emergency brake but would like to see what else is available.

hm
