JP Trigger Kit vs RRA two-stage (.308 AR)

Would love to hear some reviews on the two trigger kits listed in the title. I'm on either side of the fence whether I want a two-stage or not, I own guns with both and really don't have a preference. This is mostly going to be a paper-puncher though.

Also, if anyone has any of those kits they are willing to sell or another brand shoot me a PM, this stock DPMS trigger is junk!

Thanks!

JBO-how does one know if the trigger has been installed right or wrong? I have installed a couple of triggers in my ARs and they function fine. What is the proper way to install a trigger?

JP triggers are their own beast. They're night and day difference than a standard trigger install.

The JP trigger is not a "drop-in" unit. You can get a really nice single stage trigger but you need to take the time to set it up properly. You get Timney-like performance but its not as easy to install.

Oh ok- I have never fooled with a JP-in fact I just installed an ALG Defense Combat Trigger that I purchased from you into one of my Sporticals. I just followed the 'destructions' and all went well. It is a great improvement over the stock trigger-the pull is not light but it is grit and creep free. I installed a Geissele in my primary hunting AR a couple months ago and it is a marvel. Thanks for the info.

If you want a single stage trigger you CAN'T beat JP's triggers. However, I don't think JP does a two stage. If you want a top of the line two stage try Willson Combat 2 stage.

No experience with 2 stage triggers but I have installed a few JP Adjustable Single Stage Triggers. Like JoeBob says it takes some time to get em right. They include and excellent instructional video and set of printed instructions (at least the ones I bought).

What I have been doing lately is borrowing an idea from JARD in how they adjust the pretravel and creep in some of their adjustable single stage triggers. This involves the use of a set screw to preload the rear of the trigger. This set screws goes in through the grip bolt screw hole in the lower receiver prior to reinstalling the grip & grip screw. Yes I ALWAYS use Loktite on this set screw as I do not want it moving. This and a little light polishing and JP Spring Kit actually yields a decent hunting trigger in my opinion. I have done over two dozen of these so far with good results.

Triggers are a very subjective and individual thing. What one person feels is OK another person may think it is junk. I have never used a 2 stage trigger but may well have to try one some day.

I have rifles with both a JP (that was factory installed, or at least it was NIB with it anyway).
The JP installation video looked a little complicated with some chance for error so I purchased the RRA 2-stage `drop-in` from jobobs for .223 #2
I much prefer the JP just because of single stage but the RRA is waaaay better than factory. If you don't mind the take-up of a 2 stage and the little bit of difference in reset feel, then the drop in RRA is a good affordable alternative.
I`m not sure if the RRA is recommended for the .308 or not but perhaps with a spring change?
I have looked at ordering a JP to give the installation a try but none were available with no estimate of availability. They might have some now.

With your guys' experience, for long range shooting which is a better overall trigger ( single stage vs 2 stage). I haven't done much distance shooting with mine so I guess I can't really tell a difference.

I really just think that is a personal preference choice. Top competition shooters I know use one stage for the most part but both are great choices.

Well I went to my local gun shop to shop triggers.. They had the jp trigger kit, a bushmaster 2 stage, a timney, and could also order whatever else I was hoping for..... Long story short I dropped the dime on the Timney and this trigger is SWEET! Can't wait to get out and shoot it some.
