Jumping on the 6mm ARC

Prolly be easier to get the ARC to fit in the mag with 105-108's as compared to a 6mm-.204 as well.

To me the 6arc is made for gas guns. There are much better options for bolt guns. Try a 6x47lapua that little case is extremely inherently accurate runs a srp. And it will run with a 6creed and 243 with a little less powder. My hunting partner shoot a 6arc gas gun and with factory 80gr eld vt hornady ammo it’s running right at 2800fps. You’d get about 600fps faster out of a 6 creed 243 or 6x47l in a bolt action.
He must be taking it pretty easy on the brass. I'm getting 3000 fps with 75 grain Vmax out of a 16" gas gun using 27 grains of IMR3031 and the brass life and accuracy is excellent. It could go quite a bit hotter, but I'm trying to get max brass life as well. I have some early pieces of brass I converted from starline 6.5 grendel brass that have been fired 8+ times. This same load runs 3150 fps in my 20" gas gun.

^^That's exactly what an ARC will do. It's beyond me why boomers are so dead set against any new cartridge... The brass for a 6BR cost double what ARC brass costs. Seems like a pretty big waste of money when it allows you less than 3 grains more water volume. Load data shows the BR using powder charges within a grain of what are being listed in the Hornady ARC bolt load data for equal weight bullets. The .308 bolt face is a downfall when it comes to semi auto's, AR10's weight 30% more and suck to carry. Tell me again where the ARC touched you and made you sad?
Left is 6BR with a 26" barrel.
Right is 6ARC with a 24" Barrel.

So what's with the "Boomer" comments, is that supposed to be a slur?? Pretty lame attempt since your wrong, I'm an old "Gen X" that your going to have to work a lot harder to "make me sad"!!!

You conveniently left out your ridiculous claim of "4x the barrel life of a 6CM", could you please show us some barrels that you've personally shot out in 6ARC or any reputable sources on that amount of barrel life of 4500-6000rds?? We'll be waiting awhile.....

So staying on topic with the 6arc in a BOLT GUN application, comparing it to similar case capacity cartridges, where long range accuracy is at the highest level, your precious 6arc falls very very short of what the top shooters in the world are using (maybe they are all senile Boomers to stupid to change??). In the 10-12 matches I've shot this season, I've never seen a 6ARC in a bolt gun, never seen a PPC ever...

If it is so "great" in a bolt gun, why doesn't it dominate actual precision competition in open class bolt guns??? Why doesn't it have untold world accuracy records like the 6br and variants??

We was discussing this cartridge in a bolt gun and you bring up the weight of an AR10 BCG, what does that have to do with a bolt gun???

The 308 bolt face in a bolt gun is FARRRR more practical with a multitude of calber options vs. the AK/Grendel bolt face, not even comparable. If you would like to discuss your precious Grendel bolt in the AR15 we can and it isn't hard to find NUMEROUS complaints of broken bolts and cautious load data for the AR15 platform!

Here's some data drived from the top professional precision shooters in the world that is current, it's completely clear what dominates where accuracy counts.....

Here's the link to the recent article by Precision Rifle Blog. What The Pros Use: Precision Rifle Calibers & Cartridges

The above data was from a site called "Precision Rifle Blog ",, here is some data from a site that has great information on various calibers, focused on accuracy.

Here's some load data for the 6br and variations with light bullets and ballistic performance.

Link to the website for more information on various calibers for various applications with data that isn't sales commercials or propaganda from Hornady!

By the way, Erik I apologize for the thread getting a little side tracked, enjoy your new build, have fun with it and show us some dead coyotes with it once you get it done!

No way that "6mmBR.com" would skew their results, I'm sure that the site named for the cartridge wouldn't have any bias. Where does it show what barrel length those numbers were taken from? I highly doubt they were 24" or shorter. Hornady's ARC data is from a 18" gas gun and a 24" bolt. I have not shot out any 6 ARC barrels yet, 2500+ rounds and counting. Show me someone that has and I'll agree to claims of how many rounds it's gonna take. I haven't been able to find anyone that has shot out a 6 ARC, but that's the point I'm making... Wade Chandler of TPH has prolly put more rounds through 6 ARC's than anyone I've been able to find info on, and he is stating the barrels will last 4k rounds pretty easily. I guess we'll all have to "wait and see" when one finally burns up.
Last I checked PRS limit on velocity was 3200 fps, so only two of the loads you just posted are even legal in competition. Also how many PRS shooters do you know that are shooting 58-87 grain projectiles? Just out of curiosity...

So you have a bone to pick with Hornady? That makes more sense. To be honest every load I've tried in my 20" gun has surpassed Hornady's published velocity by over 150+ FPS with the same powder charges. 28 grains of lever shoots 105's at 2650 in my 20".

Ohh how I enjoy off-season debates, especially with people who debate with emotions instead of facts and data!!

So you prove my point that you have zero clue what your talking about! You make the statement that the 6arc has "4x the barrel life of the 6cm" in one thread and now you state you "haven't been able to find anyone that has shot out a 6arc"!!! Your statement is nothing more than hot air based on zero facts, just your guesstimate, thanks for clarifying that to us.

Accurateshooter.com sure may be biased but it's because of the multitude of records set, championships and matches won by the BR and variants, show us the 6arcs records in comparison!

They give accurate data on various calibers instead of paid advertising and paid gun writers like Hornady does because they aren't trying to sell something.

I guess you also think the 200 top professional shooters that was surveyed by PRB was skewd as well?? I get your butthurt right now and having trouble defending your precious caliber but out of the 200 shooters, 101 to be exact, (over half of all the calibers combined) was running BR variations, and only 1 out of 200 was running the 6arc, what does that say???

My point was (based on ballistic results, wins and records)and still is that in a bolt action platform there are a LOT better options than the 6arc, even if its using catridges with comparable case capacity. I don't have anything against the 6arc, it's an accurate and versatile caliber, there's just better ones IMO in a bolt gun.

Stick around, you might just learn something from us "Has Beens" that's to stupid or stubborn to change or think for themselves ;)

Hey kettle, I'm Pot and your black... If no one has burned one up yet, that would prove my point? I've been a member on this forum since 2007, so you only have 2.5 years on me "has been". You haven't actually proven anything I've said was wrong, you have no idea what the barrel life is either cause, like I said "find someone that has actually shot one out." Have you?? So maybe you should go do another PRS match and tell everybody how neat you are.

I wouldn't even consider a 6arc in a bolt gun, there's a lot of better options.

IMO the only niche "void" is running heavy 6mm bullets in a small frame AR. The 6x6.8 is a much better option for the lightweights for varmints.

I'm currently battling getting my 6arc to shoot decent. It shoots about 1moa for 5 shot groups, it will shoot about 3 or 4 into 1/2" then a flyer or 2!

It was cute of you to apologize for inserting your obvious inability to make the cartridge work in a rifle and make sure every knows that you're the big dog around here with knowledge to bestow upon all of us "newbies"...

Inability to make a barrel work with a specific set of parameters, yep sure haven't figured it out and the fact that you quoted my post here to discredit me is laughable, I must have really triggered you  :ROFLMAO:

You mind if I send it to you so you can figure it out?

You wouldn’t need to send it. I’m sure I could figure it out online through pm. But it won’t be cheap cause you obviously have more money than brains. People like you are what makes forums enjoyable. 🤣
