I was wondering if someone made a composite stock for this little guy. Have shot my swift for decades also a 223rem ,but always wanted a 222 rem finally got gifted one and would like to put a composite stock on it. Any ideas?

I'm curious, why? Boyds makes a reasonable laminate stock in a modern style. I just used one on a Rem 600 350 RM to replace a cracked original. I'd put money into a trigger job first. the little Savages have been a very accurate rifle.

Photos of targets with my old Stevens 840(Savage kissing cousin) from years ago.

I shot the lower group and thought it was an anomaly so I shot the upper one and was thoroughly impressed with the rifle. Note 50 year old 3x scope.

I added a little more power on the scope and had to black out the square as the glass wasnt the best but the little rifle held its own at 300 yards.

Because of the single action bolt and barrel band we full length bedded the action and barrel.

Onlybreason it I don't want to modify the stock . All my rifles I have free floated this one in particular is touching the stock full length of the stock . Since this is my first 222 rem not sure if floating the barrel is as effective as my 220 swift or 22-250 or even the 223. All 3 increased accuracy alot

Some of the earlier series of Remington, Winchester, Savage relied on the pressure pads within the stock fore end.
Not all of the barrels of that era shot well "floated". So sometimes when the pressure pads are removed accuracy can go south.
(which @AWS hit on the fix with bedding action and barrel at full length, this kept the natural properties of wood at bay for year round shooting if done properly one doesn't see the bedding at all until removing from the stock)

The Savage 340's is a interesting series my Dad had one in 25-20 Win. Always like that rifle.

The 340 never came in 25-20, your thinking of the Model 23, I had one of those in 22H. The 340 came in 22H, 222 Rem, 223 Rem, 225 Win and 30-30 Win. As I mentioned earlier the 340 has only one action screw at the front of the receiver and the barrel band to hold it in the stock so it is impractical to try and free float the barrel.

I had seen an article about adding a second action screw to the back of the receiver and it is quite involved and would necessitate some serious metal and stock work. Here is the article with lots of info on the 340.

Personally, I would full length bed the barrel, action and keep the barrel band. Mine shot marvelously with that set up.

Have fun with your 222 Rem, I have four, one set up for varmints and three for calling coyotes, it is one of my go-to rifles for predator hunting. Now I prefer the Speer 52gr Flatbase HP for hunting in the 222. I won the PM Egg Shoot with a 222 Rem.

thank you so much for the information I guess I will test it and see how it does. And probably just leave it like it is . I was pretty excited to get one . Have wanted a triple duece for about 40 years they are pretty hard to find and when you find one I would have to take out a mortgage to buy it .

My go to for the last 40 plus year's has been my old model ruger m77 in 220 swift love that rifle. Sent it off to McGowan barrel a few years back and had them put a 28 inch stainless barrel on it had em shot peen it hand lapped 2 times.change the twist to 1 in 12. Shoots awsome with 50gr ballistic tips a true coyote thumper. For my bobcats I use a 223 with 55 gr ballistic tips . I hunt for the fur and after trying many types and weights of bullets those 2 are the most fur friendly I have found

My first rifle was a Springfield 840 in 30-30. My dad bought it for me for 8th grade graduation. Killed a first deer and several more after that and my first hog as well. Then I got a Ruger M77 270 in college and never really used it since, but it still sits in the gun safe.

The two major problems with them was fact you had to side mount a scope and a terrible trigger, but I thought I had really moved up when I first got it.
