Just found out that New Mexico has a crow season

Just checked out crowbusters and they said that we have a year round season, wanting to make sure I called G&F got a hold of some one( amazingly) and they confirmed it, saying to checkout their web site for specific counties. For all new mexico hunters go to the web site and find hunting info, then go to species. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Kewl! Must be a change to the hunting regs. Know at one point in the recent past the only we were only allowed to openly shoot english sparrows and rock dove (pidgion).

Unless I'm mistaken (and that did happen once /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ), you misinterpreted the information on BISON. It claims that NM "Provides Full Protection" and that crows are not a game species. What you see under "Season" is the time of year during which crows occur in that county, not a time of year when you can hunt them. Furthermore, there is no provision for hunting them in the NM Small Game Rules and Information booklet. I would be highly suspect of "verbal authorization" to hunt them from the G&F unless you can back it up in writing. Remember, it's the officer in the field that you have to prove you're right to, not the office flunky that answered your phone call.

Be careful my friend, the crow is considered a migratory bird and all reg's for total number of crow season days are set by the FEDS,then each state can decide how to set up the seasons except for the spring nesting period which is a fed law. I'd call the USDA WILDLIFE DIVISION and double check with you own STATE F&G as well. Also check out the CROWBUSTERS web site, they have all reg's and seasons for all states. Crow hunting is a challenge and a lot of fun if you do it right. There are no open seasons in any state that I'm aware of but you can get depredation permits for crows doing crop damage almost any time of year.

Lots of states have a crow season, due to the fact that it is mexico's national bird. In va you can't crow hunt on certain tuesdays! or something like that!

Gunnut,

It won't cost you anything to contact you local field ranger with the F & G department just to ask him about the regs on crows. Sometimes, the ways the laws are written can be mis-interperted so asking him wont hurt. Besides, this would be the guy checking you out in the field so clearing up any questions with him would be the way to go.
Just my opinion...

Season:
August 17–March 15 on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and
Saturday only

In VA we have a season to hunt them. It doesnt say how many you can kill, so i guess its how many fly over you!
