I took a buddy with me last night that has been asking to tag along for a night out hog hunting and it almost cost me a shot at a big boar.
We set up in my new blind and after a few hours he was getting restless and asked me several times how long we were going to sit and I kept telling him we needed to stay until at least 10:30. I finally decided to call it at around 10:15 so I turned a light on in the floor of the blind to start gathering things up and I decided to check the objective focus on my scanner before putting it in the case and a large boar moved into my view at about 50 yards out right to left.
I tapped my buddy so he would know and then I just eased the scanner onto the floor of the blind and got behind my scope and turned it on. Luckily it was still in the shooting saddle and when I got an image the boar was now on the feeder. The wind was pretty shaky and now I had a light on in the blind so I wanted to get a round into him ASAP.
I pulled my first shot to the right a little and the round went past his ear and entered his chest cavity around his left shoulder. It hammered him pretty good and I thought he would stay down but he recovered and managed to try to run with his hind legs only. I had to wait for him to stay still long enough for a kill shot and then I got another round into him.
