and thinking about the quiet S. Texas brush country. That's I-10 in foreground and loop 610 circled.

The fourth-longest route in the Interstate Highway System, I-10 is the main interstate crossing the southern U.S. From where it meets California Route 1 in Santa Monica, I-10 extends 2,640 miles to Jacksonville, Florida, including an 880-mile stretch through Texas. The portion of I-10 passing through Houston is one of the nationā€™s most traffic-clogged highways. Known locally as the Katy Freeway, it is also one of the widest roads in the world, spanning a staggering 26 lanes of traffic. Over 320,000 vehicles use it daily, making this the busiest road in the Lone Star State.

Well Clarence, I think the view is better from the 14th than the first. 1.) you couldn't see the sunsets 2.) you couldn't see the raptors from the "topside" 3.) you just could not see much!
And from what you have posted on here you have tons of great pics of the S. Tx. brush country to review.
 
This afternoon a load of (what looked like 8-10") pipe broke loose on a flat bed trailer. Traffic was down to 1, maybe 2 lanes west bound for an hour or more, then when two cherry pickers and a larger flat bed arrived I-10 west was shut down for another couple of hours while they transferred the load to the larger truck. Traffic was backed up for miles on all the feeder roads, as well. You can barely see the tires on the original truck under overpass (red arrow)

Last time I was through Houston it was probably 10 years ago and I stopped at a RV park North, got up about 3:30 so I could get thru before rush hour traffic. We built a mud tank farm for the oilfield down in El Campo, was down there about 3 months. Enjoyed the GOOD food and weekend trips to Port Lavaca. That was the 1st time I saw alligators in TX.
 
If you have to drive in Houston, that's the best time of day to do it. Mikeska's & Prasek's have some good BBQ in El Campo.
 
we stayed in a small RV Park behind Pincher's Restaurant, they had some really GOOD food.
I love BBQ, had to pull up pics of Mikeska's & Prasek's... yea, we ate there too, it was awesome! There's ALOT of things to like about TX. LOL
 
Last time was going to the PM hunt in Tucson. maybe 2015 or 2016? The year after that we moved it to NV and I wasn't ever able to go again & then covid shut it all down & we've never been able to resume them

I always wanted to hit Houston at some non-rush hour time so it wouldn't be as bad. The goals was just to get through & back to the desert

I doubt that there is ever a non-rush time anywhere inside 20 miles of Houston!:LOL:

I can imagine that your view from the 14th floor of your present habitat could never be rated against the view from your elevated blind or even the ground level of that beautiful south Texas brush country. I can empathize with you as we tried the city atmosphere and it took 4 years to get back to the country where my blood pressure got back to a safe level.
