I was reading this months Predator Xtreme magazine and ran across an article that light my fuse.
It was Brush Popping by Jason Cox It talks about hunting dogs in very heavy cover. WE DO THAT, but he has some wonderful ideas and hints. I sometimes take the 870 but NEVER take my shotgun AND rifle.Just to much for this old man to lug around, bad enough to get my lard A$$ out to the sets anymore,BUT. I'm going to try all the suggestions,'cept the ladder ASAP. I love to slam coyotes with my shotgun. It got me so light up I ran out and loaded some more #F lead 3 1/2" shells...Do any of you people hunt this style?

hunting fox in open farmland sometimes covering 8-9 miles in a day, before mange took them, I would usually carry my 870 and my 788 rem .223. never gave it much thought about being hard to do or heavy load. My T.20 is proly about 12-13 lbs? never weighed it.

I have shot them walking thick brush lines for rabbit during mid day. Sometimes a yote will come flying out of the thick bushes and get unloaded on. Same with wild cats.

I know the author would be pleased to know that his editorial lit a fuse under you. That's why a lot of us write. To inspire! Glad to hear some positive feedback from PX readers even though it wasn't my article. Thanks for reading...

I liked that article too. I get a few every year it seems in some thicker cover. I probably won't be carrying a step stool with me though.

Your article was good too Tom! I enjoyed reading it.

I agree. We often hear about the stuff people don't like. Both positive and negative feedback are useful, but the positive stuff is more fun!

I passed along your positive comments.

A few weeks ago, I visited with a guy that I kind of know a little. He was describing his few coyote calling attempts to me with his two grown boys. They had never tried it before this year. He told me about several unsuccessful hunts they had and how they couldn't seem to get anything to come in. Well, he continued to say that they tried it again and went out and before sitting down, he told his boy to sit in a certain way because that's what he had read in one of my articles. Low and behold it worked and his boy nailed a coyote sneaking around the backdoor!

When he was telling the story, I wasn't prepared for him to mention my article and how he applied it to their hunting and found success doing so. He thanked me and I thanked him for the stories and feedback. Needless to say, I left with a big smile on my face. I tell this, not to toot a horn, but to just add to what Tom said about why we like to write. I've had a decent amount of success doing it and if I can help someone else out with an article or even just a helpful hint in the article, than I'm overjoyed!
