Hey everyone,

I moved from WI to KS and unfortunately most of the people I know are non hunting graduate students or professors. Are there any good public hunting options near wichita? I mean in terms of anything whe ther it be birds, deer, coyotes, etc. Ive done some deer hunting on a friends land and some pheasent hunting on public access but is not enough! I am used to WI where there was quite a bit of public land and I knew people who gave us permisson.

Kansas has very little public land. To compensate for this our department of wildlife, parks, and tourism came up with a rather novel idea. They basically lease land from land owners that make it open to the public. It's called walk-in hunting access (WIHA). Go to kdwpt.com and search wiha.

I’m from Cheney Kansas. If you ever need someone to hunt coyotes with let me know

That’s a heck of an offer there Bryday! Hope he takes you up on it and many coyotes are killed by all!

I have found it just takes knocking on a lot of doors. Most farmers willing to give permission appreciate the respect of asking vs helping yourself. I have knocked on a lot of
doors and have been told no too many times to count but have also gained thousands of acres of hunting at the same time.

While I didn’t hunt coyotes there, I turkey hunted WIHA land for 8 straight years. Every year we’d end up calling coyotes in while calling gobblers.
