Kies AR uppers - Review

It’s actually good to hear that lots of people have had a positive experience with Kies. I would not wish anyone to have a bad one, its just not the experience I had. Is that not the purpose of a forum, to leave feedback and share experiences? Good or bad?

When I purchased my first Kies there were no reviews really of any kind. I had nothing to go on. I always like to research a product before spending any amount of money and the best way to do that is read other peoples experiences, good and bad. This is why I am a strong believer in leaving feedback good or bad. I love to leave good feedback in hopes that others will have the same satisfaction and joy that I did from a product or company. There are few things better than shooting a fine weapon. I left a good review on JoeBobs after it was all said and done on my first Kies upper. If I was simply some nut that wanted to “burn” Kies why would I have left him positive feedback?

I do not like being quoted on saying things I never said as I seriously doubt any of you would.

I really don’t understand the comments regarding this is my first post and it is negative and looks bad. So if I left a positive comment would I get the same comments? Would people say “this is your first post, you really have no business leaving positive feedback on a product you purchased”? This was my first post and it was negative but it would have also been my first post if I left positive feedback which I would have also left however I doubt I would have received some of the comments I did if I left positive feedback. Sorry, but to me this does not make any sense and is illogical. Is there a number of times one has to post to leave negative feedback on a product purchased?

This was nothing more than my experience with a new company that for the most part was only reviewed on this forum. Google took me to this site when I tried to find feedback so it seemed the logical place to leave my feedback. It was my first post, it was negative, and it was honest.

I'm happy with my Kies 6.8 SPC upper, I got it back in August 2011 and killed a nice 8 point buck with it 3 months later. I have shot about 100-150 rounds through it so far with no malfunctions at all using Hornady, SSA and Remington ammo. Travis was a pleasure to deal with and answered all my questions thoroughly.

I won a Kies upper in 6x45 at the hunt/convention last year. Travis spent time after I won it explaining how to clean it with the ceramic coating. Travis also took the upper back with him to test fire it because he put it together in the motel room at the hunt. He mailed it to me at no cost to me. After testing some loads a five shot group on X-mas day was just under an inch. Travis was great to work with. This is my dealings with Travis.

I too am looking to build a 6.5 at some point and am always looking for reviews, good or bad to help make my decisions. I have to agree, I don't think you have to earn the right to post a review on any site good or bad. Sounds to me like you just want to get your money back and it sounds like Travis is willing to do that. If nothing else, this hard time brought you to this great site where there is a wealth of information to be had. I've been so busy it's been a while since I've been here but I have learned a ton on the different forums here. Hope it all works out for you. When and if you get your refund back, post it here so others can see how it worked out. Sounds like Travis will take care of it.
Happy New Year to all on Predator Masters and Happy Hunting.

I have a Kies 7.62 upper and a Kies lower that I bought from JoeBobs. My experience with Travis and his products has been very good. I called him with questions on ammo and the adjustable gas block for the upper and he returned my call same day and spent about 20 minutes on the phone answering my questions. I would not hesitate to call or email him again with any questions. The worst that the upper will shoot is around 1.25" with cheap ammo. It will shoot around 3/4" with good hunting ammo if I am doing my part. The golden bear ammo shoots right around an inch.

I am very impressed with the blast master linear comp. It makes the muzzle blast and noise noticably more pleasant for the shooter. I let a friend shoot it during deer season while I was standing about 5' away at 4 o'clock, I caught the casing. It was the first time without ear protection. After the shot neither one of us had any ringing and didn't even notice the shot being very loud at all. I like the blast master so much that I am going to put one on an upper I am going to build.

A lot of people won't leave reviews if their experiences are good, and I am one of them, but I think I side with Travis on this one.

I might not be your intend to do this (i.e. troll), but many people get upset at something, log on under a name and trash a business or person in there 1st few posts. They use the anonymity of the web to say thing they wouldn't say in public in front of someone. This is why the regular PM forum user disregards low post slam fests. They want to see you add useful comments to the site; otherwise you look like a troll.

My experience with Keis is small. I have one of thier new adj gas blocks and it is nice. I bought it from Joebobs.

"They want to see you add useful comments to the site; otherwise you look like a troll." Your statement implies that only positive comments are useful and I would have to disagree.

Feedback is feedback both good and bad. If you knew me I have NO problem speaking my mind face-to-face and do it frequently. That is my preferred method of communication and there is nothing I put down that I would not say face-to-face or already had. However you can not leave feedback for others looking for information on a product or company "face-to-face" or verbally. Those involved with this post have my number and are free to call me in person.

I see nothing wrong with leaving feedback on any web site regarding ones own experience good or bad. It is the task of those looking for the feedback or reviews to decide what is relavent, useful, or helpful. Will there be angry people leaving feedback? Yes. Will some be inappropriate? Yes. Is that thier right? Yes. That is what the freedom of speach is all about.

I think we simply will disagree on this subject but I do appreciate your opinion. Thats what this whole thing was about.

Cant we all just get along

Ive only got one part thats kies and its an adjustable low profile gas block which i ordered from joe bob's, top notch part for the money. Instead of a gas tube roll pin it has a treaded allen head screw instead, which made it easier to install the gas tube to the gas block. Will definitely be trying out some of their other parts.

My son has a KIES MK1 in 6.8 SPC and he loves it. I got a chance to look it over and handle it and I really like it also. The bolt carrier is a little rougher than I would like, but not a deal killer. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet (son lives 375 miles from me and we were on a quick weekend visit).

Based on my visual inspection and my son's recommendation I will be ordering a KIES MK1 6.8 SPC this coming week. And, because I REALLY like the looks of the new nickel boron carrier that I saw in the picture posted here on PM forum by Travis/KIES, I will be adding that to the build.

Just my 2 cents worth. (well maybe it is worth 2 cents)

Update:

Last week I called Travis at Kies and placed an order for one of his 6.8 SPCII uppers. While we were talking, I mentioned the rough bolt carrier on my son's upper. Travis told me to send him the BC and he would send me a new one. Also, he offered that for $55.00 we could upgrade to the new NiBoron BC. My son sent his BC and a check. Today when he got home from work, the new NiBoron carrier was there waiting for him. He sent me a picture of the new BC and it is every bit as nice a the pictures that Travis posted of his new NiBoron carriers.

Needless to say, my son is VERY Happy!!! I can't wait to get my Kies 6.8 upper.

I don't think someones review should be disregarded based on the number of posts he/she has. Positive or negative, feedback is a good thing. Both have told their sides of the story and it will be up to others to use their own judgment on purchasing a Kies product. Based on the ammount of others positive feedback, I doubt they will loose much business.

The frustrating thing is that it is impossible to make every customer happy. It seems that the customers that you go out of your way for, end up burning you in the end. This one is pretty easy for me to see who is in the right.
