Killing hawks and owls??? Is it ever legal?

Not all those folks are elected, but their bosses are (if you go up the chain far enough). Creates a difficult situation as far as job security- repeat the "company line" or deal with the consequences. No, not everyone and not everywhere, but many, many decisions of government (through various agencies) are not based on fact, science, or reason but on political factors.

The fact is raptures are federally protected. FEDERALLY PROTECTED!

Without going through an act of congress, (almost literally) nobody, not even a goofy, full of crap wabbit is going to be issued a *depredation permit* to kill any raptures by the truckload.. Not owls, not hawks, not eagles, not falcons. None of the raptures.

I find it hard to believe anybody would say such a thing on an open forum for the world to read. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Were'nt wolves FEDERALLY PROTECTED at one time also???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

OK, here is a new line of thought. The family that owns the land and ranches cattle on it that I hunt has and is still having a big problem with Black Vultures. Seems they have taken a liking to new born calves.

We have watched as several vultures will harrass a cow and calf until they wear them out. then they go for the eyes and eventually kill the calf. In most cases the calf is not even eaten entirely.

The Black Vulture aside from looking different will actually kill to eat whereas the turkey vulture will not. Per minimal research I have done.

Both of these birds are federally protected birds in accordance with an INTERNATIONAL treaty with Mexico.

Here is the process the farmer has to go through.

He see's the problem and calls Nashville federal fish and game etc. Of course there are only two agents assigned. They have to come down and look at the damage to make sure it is predation. then they will issue a toy shotgun that shoots firecrackers. That is what you are supposed to do is scare them off. If that does not work you MAY get a depredation permit but by the time they come back to see that the firecrackers did not work calving season is over and the threat has moved on.

Best thing we found to do is stay vigilant and run them off by approaching in the truck or 4 wheeler. But then you walk the fine line of harrassing which is also illegal.

So far he has lost over $2500.00 in calves which doesn't seem like much but he only runs a couple hundred head.

Count me out for anything more aggressive. There have been convictions in Tennessee for shooting these things. OH, if I am not mistaken maximum is 6 months and $4000 per bird.

Im pretty sure that if you raise quail or things like that and hawks and owls are killing them you can get a permit to shoot birds of prey (probably not eagles) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

NO YOU CAN'T THE GAME WARDEN WILL ISSUE A CAPTURE OF THE BIRD AND THE BIRD WILL BE RELOCATED! YOU CAN DO NO MORE THEN WATCH THEM! UNLESS THE BIRD IS HURTING A CHILD AS STATED BUT YOUR CHILD BEST HAVE SOME MARKINGS OF PROOF AND THE BODY CAN'T BE REMOVED. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

What if one of those big birds is after your Lab? Good retrievers are hard to come by. done joking, The game warden was all over a land owner for being to close to a eagle nest with his tractor. what he acomplished was pissing the guy off enough to shut his farm to everyone. hunted that place for 30 years. Thank Pa Game Comm.

Its hard tellin if it would make hair grow back or not.To be honest with ya its probably good for all kinds of things.Thats why its illegal to eat em'.Thats what I think anyway.
The goverment doesnt want us to have hair or to be happy or anything like that so they took the the one food source that could solve all of our problems and made it illegal to eat or own.Its a conspiracy I tell ya. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Wow........Im dumb. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
I have fun though so thats good I guess.

Uh Oh!!!!
I just had a pretty funny thought again. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Just imagine getting sent to jail for eating an eagle.I would pay money to see the expression on some of the real criminals faces when that guy told them what he had done to get there.

Guy that ate the eagle-"So what did you do to get in here?"

Criminal-"I stabbed a guy,what did you do?"

Guy that ate the eagle-"OHHHHH I dont know......I ate an eagle."

Criminal-"Oh man that is illegal! What did it taste like?"

Guy that ate the eagle-".......Freedom".

Criminal-(has no clue what that is but thinks it would taste awesome)

Yeah I dont know I didnt really think of the dialogue between the two characters very much but you can imagine how funny that would be.Or at least I think it would be. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Guys... and Gals,

I respectfully suggest all of you read and then reread the TOS here at PM.

Whether in jest or not, some things are best left alone.

I would also suggest anyone that has any questions regarding the above should go back and read the earlier post in this thread from PM Administration:

Quote:

Predator Masters has a zero tolerance policy for anyone who promotes, suggests or posts of committing illegal acts.
Zero Tolerance.

We are contacted from time to time by various Game Depts. who have received information about illegal activities being posted on our forums. In all cases we will cooperate fully with any investigation or request for information.

Use some common sense and represent this sport in the best light possible.

I'm saying this as a fellow member and not a mod... we don't need these kinds of conversations here. Period! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Gotcha!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
I'll shut up now.My jokes are pretty lame anyway but if you catch wind of anyone who wants to put them in a book or somethin just let me know. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
And if they need to be deleted thats cool too I guess.

I can see the lighthearted humor that may want to appear in this thread, but in light of PM policy, it really has no further benefit.

Thanks guys.

Barry
