Killing raccoons?..

I've shot a few coons in a trap with CB shorts and not had the bullet penetrate the skull. A regular short works good or a rap on the head and stand on the chest for a couple minutes. I prefer that because of no bloody hide when you skin the shot ones.
 
im not sure how much of this should be discussed on an open forum, but since we are all going into details, the whole idea of a thump on the head is not to shatter the skull. How many humans have you seen with scars on their heads from having their skull cracked, and surviving? Its far from a humane kill most of the time. The point of the club is to break the neck. You sever the spinal colom, and its game over. a well placed club to the back of the head with a foreward motion, or behind the ear, and you dont have to shater the skull, and they are dead now.

Yeah, this could happen, and that could happen, and just because we have heard it, or seen it once, how many times does something work that we dont hear about?

We have all seen and heard some crazy stuff before, but just because something happened once doesnt mean its gonna happen every time.
 
Another option is to carry along a 160 conibear or 220 conibear to place over the caught raccoons head. Not as easy as a .22 short (not impressed with cb rounds), but depending on the situation can be very disceet. (160 is the better of the two traps)
