Kimber 280 AI

I just bought a Kimber Montana in a 280 Ackley Improved. I'm wanting to shoot 160 or 168 Accubonds and 170 Woodleighs. I know with a 1 in 9.5" twist I'm gonna be pushing my luck with the 168 and 170. Has anybody tried either in a Montana yet?
If I can't get it to shoot I always have the option of sending it to Pac Nor and rebarreling it.

Well I got to the range today and I tried the 168's over RL22 and it yielded a .70 group at 100 yards. I'm going to tweak the load a little and see if it will improve any if not I'm very tickled with that for a light rifle.

That's pretty darn good for that light of a rifle. I would be very happy with it. Love those Kimbers.

Those Montanas are great rigs. I was looking at a Kimber Mountain Ascent in 280AI yesterday. They also had VX-6 2-12 in the case. That setup is really making me think about selling some safe queens and funding the ultimate wolf rig.

I just picked up a Montana in 243 yesterday. It shoots under an inch at 100. I really like it. Strongly considering another in 223.

Have you done anything to it to try and help it? Is the front action screw to long? Is the front scope ring screw to long? Will the magazine box move any? Have you rebedded (skim bedded) the action and barrel? Are you using commercial ammo or reloads?

Those are just some things that will improve any rifle. If you have already done those please ignore what I wrote.

I'm well past the point where I can no longer count my Kimber rifles on one hand, and soon will need a third hand the way its going. So far, I've not been blessed with the curse of a "Bad Kimber" like some complain about so vocally on the internet. All of mine shoot great.

There is a great thread over on the 24 Hour Campfire (I hope its OK to say those words here) for anyone with a Kimber rifle, or for any rifle for that matter, that is an excellent diagnostic thread for a recalcitrant Kimber if you have one. I don't remember specifically where it is, but if you go over there and ask where you can find the thread on disciplining a naughty Kimber rifle, someone will come along with the link, I'm sure.

Well, with that said, I guess I'll hold my hat in my hand to see if a social security age Testudines strolls by and tells me I can't post such stuff here and threatens to have my life support devices unplugged.

After waiting on mine for 14 months and getting 2 inch groups to start with my first three loads I stuck it in the safe andd haven't touched it since. Went back to my beat up weatherby.

Suggest you check the stability at longer ranges...of course it will stabilize those weights at just 100 yards. Have a look at say 300-400 and see if they are still on an even keel, so to speak. Give them a little distance and time to yawl. Just sayin'
