I have been eyeing one in 308 Win for a while. Anyone have a Kimber and how do you like it? I don't need it, but it sure feels and looks good. The one I am looking at is the 84M Montana. It is flat stainless, kevlar stock, and weighs 5.2 pounds.

Thanks

I have a 84M varmint in 22-250 and love it. It is really well made IMO. the stock comes free floated and glass bedded. It is really tight and shoot excellent groups. The trigger is good, not great.

I have been eyeing one in 7mm-08 for some time now also.

I had one in 22-250 as well, but I thought it was called a super varmint or something. Anyway it had a fluted barrel and a laminated stock. I had the trigger set to two pounds. I tried about 12 different factory loads and was never able to get a sub moa group from it. I was pretty upset because I spent $1000 on it. After that I sold it and bought a Remington 700 SPS for around $400 and with trigger work it shot .5 moa. . . . .Kimber bad? Dunno, but I do think sometimes you get a good rifle (in any make) and sometimes you don't.

I've got two...one pro-varmint in a 22-250: the other day I shot a .32"-3 shot group at 100 yds, and it'll put five rounds under .5" easily. I've also got a 8400 270 WSM: it also shoots exceptionally well, I killed a white-tail last year with it at 599yds. My calling partner has two also, the Longmaster VT in 22-250 and a pro-varmint in 204. He hasn't shot the pro-varmint yet and is currently testing loads for the VT...so far it is putting 5 shots in .58"...the first four of that group went .37"...the last was a little bit of a flyer, and those are the first loads he's tried. I have pics of most of the groups if you need proof.

Needless to say, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy another.

Yes I have the Kimber 84m in the longmaster classic in 308.Love this rifle usually will shoot 3/4" at 200 yds with hand loads using 150 gr Sierra Game Kings and Varget. The kimber is topped of with a Burris 3-12X50 Euro Diamond and has become my GO TO GUN for Deer and Antelope,Anyway it works great for me .

My son bought a used 84m classic 308. This the wood stocked, blue version. Very light, nicely turned out. The few loads we've tried with it hover right around an inch. I've thought more than once I need the montana version in 7-08 or 308.

Good rifles, Gary. They had a lot of problems at first, but have since been ironed out.

I'd pass on the 308 and get a Montucky in 7-08........

I have an 84M in .204 Ruger. What a great rifle it is. Very well finished, looks great and shoots better. I really want one in .223 or 22-250 though. I would buy it if it is what you want in in your price range.

I appreciate all of the input on this gentlemen. It jumped in the truck when I was leaving the gun store a few minutes ago. I felt so sorry for it I let stay, LOL. Hope it shoots as good as my 1911 Kimbers!

Thanks again,

I have a Kimber 84M sporter in 243 Win that shoots sub MOA. Pretty good considering how light this Kimber is and how thin the barrel. I also have a Kimber Montana in 300 WSM that I kilt two Idaho bulls with. This thing kicks the he11 out of you! But it's a joy to carry, and will also shoot sub MOA. I've been thinking about a Kimber Longmaster Classic in 223. And for 2009 they chambered the Montana in 223 and 204. Kimber builds some good rifles. They ain't Sakos but good solid rifles. Grizz
Oh, I to have a Kimber 1911. The ultra carry II 45 ACP with the night sites and Crimsen trace grips.
This weapon is obscenely accurate.

BoomSplat. What Cal Montana did you just pick up? Grizz

It's a 308 Win. Just getting ready to mount a scope for tomorrows shoot. Grizz, I can just imagine how much fun that 300 short mag is at the bench in that light of a gun. My 300 WM in my stainless 700 pegs my fun meter after just a few rounds, LOL! Never seem to notice when there is an elk in the sights though.

Oh yeah, It was brutal! But when your hunting and the blood is up, recoil will be the last thing you care about. What scope did you settle on?

Mnt Home Idaho. My father inlaw Ben who I never met was stationed at the Air Force Base at Mnt Home in the late 50s
early 60s before my wife made the scene. My wifes the youngest her older siblings were there also. "Benny" died in 1980. Grizz
