My wife is getting me a 84m Pro Varmint in 22-250 for Christmas, and I would like some advise on how to properly break it in. THANKS HOOVY

I have the same rifle...it is a very good shooter. I break all mine in the same way: shoot 10, cleaning between each shot; shoot 10 more, cleaning between every two shots. Then I usually clean after each 5 shot group as I devolop loads for it. I'm sure there are better/different methods, just the way I do it.

The manual speaks specifically about how to do it per Kimbers instructions. I have the 84M varmint in 22-250 and love it. Dad has the pro and it is awesome.

Here's a couple pics of mine in action.

Couple p-dogs I shot at 540 yds.

+1 on what Timberbeast7 said for the break in process. Just be sure to get a good bore guide and use high quality solvent.

Clean it when you get it really well, then shoot it. If all the procedures out there help you sleep, then do it. I prefer to not waste barrel life on cleaning procedures. Everyone has a different one and if the barrel is made as it should be (especially for the price of a Kimber), it should be just fine.

That's pretty close to what I do..
I have four Pac-Nor barrels and they tell ya to shoot ten cleaning between every shot and then clean between every third shot ten times. That's a whopping forty rounds of barrel life!! He11,,, it takes a few rounds just to sight it in and get used to the new rig so I don't see it as being wastefull or a big deal at all...
If Pac-Nor and Kimber (as well as most other barrel manufacturers) say to do some break-in,, I'd do it before listening to a bunch of complete strangers who claim to be experts... That would include me,, but you did ask..ha
As stated above,, "use good equipment" and enjoy a day at the range with your new Kimber..
Whitch,, by the way,, I'm very jelous of..

Luck

Couple of questions in order to answer your question.
Who makes Kimber barrels?
Are Kimber barrels lapped by the factory, before you get them?

Thanks everybody!!! I have only had two new guns, my Rem sps varmint and my colt ar match. I didn't know anything about break in when I got the sps, I just took it out and shot it. I have only run a bore snake through it once or twice and I can hit a golf ball at 100 yards easy with it. I've had the AR for years and it hasn't been shot much. But I figured with the Kimber I had better do it right. What bore guide is a good one, I don't have one?

Merry Christmas !!!! Hoovy

Contact Mike Lucas.... lucasmjb(AT)windstream.net ..... and order a bore guide for your specific rifle and caliber... His turnaround time may be a week or two, since it is a side job for him.... But he made one for my Remington, with an additional insert for my .204 and the quality is excellent...

His mailing address is: Mike Lucas, 225 Browns River rd.

That's good advice right there.. Lucas's bore guides are more expencive, but IMO worth every penny..
Here's one of the delrin guides that broke in one of my Pac-Nor match grade barrels.

The trauma involved in removing it without scratching the chamber made the price of Mike's guides seem pretty reasonable..lol

Mr. Turtle
That 223 I sold you was broken in per Pac-Nor's recomended procedure.
I can't prove that it did any good,, but I'm pretty sure you'll agree that it dang sure didn't hurt any thing..
