OK guys, Whats the scoop on Kimber Rifles....Everything I've read says they are great but I hear little comments now and then about their service and then I hear that some shoot great but a few don't..I'm thinking about another .223....I would appreciate your experience and comments................... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I have a 22-250 varmint. It shoots sub moa with 55gr factory loads. I bought it on closeout at sportsmans for $799. I couldn't be happier.

I have a 22-250 Longmaster. I REALLY like mine. I have shot the SVT in 223 and a Pro Varmint in 22-250 both of these were excellent shooters also.

My Kimber 84M in .204 shoots really well. Certainly better than I can. I wish it had more scope, but I put on it what I could afford, a Leupold VXII in 3-9X40. It is the best scope I have and I think the Kimber deserves it and more.

If I was loaded with dough I would buy a VXIII in something like 6-18 or there about.

Too many QC issues right now............

Count me in here.

QC has been a problem for many years. And is still as iffy as it was 10 years ago.

May I ask what the Kimber QC problems are specifically, and are these personal experiences?

Thanks, I look forward to your responses.

I have an 84m in .204. most accurate gun i own.
Thats saying alot. I have not experienced any QC issues
so i can't tell you about thier service. But the rifle is
beautifully made and shoots great.Just a Kimber owners
opinion.

I think the quality control problems at Kimber are no more prevalent than with any other gun manufacturer. I bought a new Kimber .22 Classic rifle 2 years ago. It is a museum piece as far as fit & finish are concerned, drives tacks with several types of ammo, and in general is one of the best guns I have ever owned. I also own a Kimber .22 conversion for my 1911, and it functions flawlessly on any ammo I have used. I know several other Kimber owners whose viewpoints echo mine.

I have to agree with you Varmonter, and proudly so.
I have a Kimber 84M ProVarmint .204 Ruger and it is outstanding.
I had my gunsmith fine tune the trigger right after I purchases it, because I wanted more than the crisp 3.5lb trigger that they send it with. He was blown away by the quality of material and workmanship of the rifle. From the trigger to the action, barrel and stock..he was very impressed.
I also have a .243 Ackley Improved that I had custom built by a nationally known gunsmith--who has done several custom gun projects for the Varmint Hunter Association/Magazine--and he is less impressed with that than he is the Kimber.
Again, just a Kimber owners opinion, but I think when you consider quality--custom grade parts--they are the best deal on the market.

Here is the latest to be introduced to the Kimber -- I think she was wishing for QC problems also --

kimber quality control often orignates with cooper owners, I have both and the only problems i have had is with cooper. bolt release unreliably engages and disengages .had a freind with a cooper with an ai chamber cut improperly, they insisted it was ok, he just sold the rifle. It would not fire factory rounds to fireform. Probably needed to be set back and rechambered. I have an a.i. cooper that shoots fine.that is the quality control experience I have had. coopers may outshoot kimbers ,but then they all are single shots.Don't know??????????

Ive been shooting my 84m 204 for about 8 months. Its scratched dented and used and so far so good. I am curious also about the quality control issues? Only bad thing I have seen is they are to pretty to use for some but after the first scratch Oh well.

I would venture that they don't have any first hand experiance but are just pasting what someone else said that someone else heard.

I have bought five new Kimber of Yonkers rifles in the last few years and while I already had an extensive battery of nice guns for hunting and target shooting I wanted lighter guns due to my age and a knee injury. It was the right thing to do.

I have had some problems with the new Kimbers but I had problems with the other rifles before that and worked them out. Currently the Kimbers are my primary varmint, big game and big game magnum rifles.

Here are my primary hunting rifles and they are all Kimbers. A perspective on these rifles is that they have pushed aside a matched quartet of pre 64 70's and many other pre 64's Featherweights etc.

From left to right is a 8400 in 270 WSM with a 3-9 Conquest. The mounts have been replaced with Talley Lightweights. This rifle stays sighted in which is #1 with me and makes about .75 MOA three shot groups or better shooting the 140 Accubond.

Center is a quite new 84M in 308. It has a Zeiss Diatal on it and it weighs only six pounds as you see it. Thats now my favorite woods and mountain gun. If the snow were deep I would carry it for coyotes as well.

Last to the right is the 84M in 243. This rifle was perfect out of the box and is on a run now of no misses on crows. Shown is a 4.5-14 Vari-x 111 Tac. but its been upgraded to a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14.

I love my M84 varminter. It is a well balanced rifle that shoots pretty good (5 shot / 1/2" or less / with some reloads). No QC problems noted here.

Savage 99, I am in the same boat with you, bad back. I bought several Kimbers because of the light weight and am very pleased with them. My montana .243 weighed 5 lbs 3 ozs. on a postage scale and I put a Leupold 3X9 compact scope on it and the combination feels like a bb gun. I am back hunting and have killed numerous predators with the Kimber Montana. I liked it so much I bought a 22-250 classic and a 22-250 varmint, also a .223 Super America and a 22lr. These are the only guns I hunt with any more. I haven't had any quality problems with any of them. The accuracy of the 22lr is incredible. The 22-250 varmint will shoot 1/4 to 1/2 inch 5 shot groups with good handloads.
