Kit Foxes only come out at night

I am going to be in a coyote tournament at the end of the month here in El Paso, Texas and the guy putting it on is not going to allow another hunter who entered last year to enter this year because he brought in a kit fox at his tournament last year. The guy putting on the tournament really felt like the hunter who brought in the kit fox was cheating by spotlighting at night because kit foxes were nocturnal creatures that only came out at night. My question is this: Does a Kit Fox coming to the call in the day time seem really that farfetched? I know it's not uncommon for other species of foxes to come to the call during the day, but my buddies putting on the tournament seem to feel like it couldn't possibly happen, so this guy is "obviously a cheater and cannot be trusted."
I personally do not know the guy who brought in the fox last year and couldn't tell you who he was if I saw him so I cannot vouch for his character or tell you one way or the other if he is the type of guy who would cheat in a tourney or not but my gut say's that bringing in a kit fox in the day time should not be grounds for banning a hunter from a tournament.
The truth is, I too thought this guy may have cheated also based on their (my buddies) claims that this particular fox only comes out at night. That is until I saw a recent post where a guy took a picture of a kit fox and it was daylight which made me think that the guy may have been completely honest in that last tournament. If it was possible for a Kit Fox to come in during the day I feel like the guy should be allowed to hunt. Thanks in advance for the help. Jacob Cope

Last question: What other methods do yall use in tournements to keep guys in check to make sure there will be no cheating? given the following rules:

1. Hunting will begin at sun up and end at sun down. All entrants must be back at check in at 7:30 pm
2. No more than three people to a team
3. Entrants may not split up
4. Entrants are limited to a hundred mile radius from the city limits of El Paso, Texas
Thanks guys in advance, and if anyone from the area is interested in entering this tournament, it's the last weekend of this month, please PM me for information.
PS. Here is the picture of the Kit Fox obviously in the day light. Thanks to whoever took it.

I've seen plenty of kit fox out during the day. Sure, they come in easily at night, but PM member Switch and I sat and watched a pair last January at noon.

Banning him for that, just shows the lack of preparation the guy hosting the hunt has for tempature probing animals.

Things to do to help deter cheaters:

1) Kill blocks (different color for each team is best), write down animal number, team number, date, time. Ziplock inside mouth.

2) Temperatue probe questionable animals. Compare temp to other teams animals killed near the same time on the kill block.

3) Lie detector test for top 3 teams.

Just because an animal is said to be nocturnal does not mean it will NEVER be seen during daylight hours. If it happens to be a predator as well, there is a very real possibility that a call could temp it into a daylight appearance.

Kit Fox are mostly nocturnal, but they do come in during the daytime. We have called in a few during the daytime, and have the video to prove it. I think they may be taking it a little too far calling him a cheater.

I have called the kit and the swift fox out in far West Texas in broad daylight. The species of animal called is not the way to decide when it was called. I had a ringtailed cat come to a deer feeder at about 2:00 PM about 2 weeks ago.

I see kits all the time when driving around the ranch. Obviously, morning and evening are best, but I've also seen them at all times of the day.

there was a picture posted yesterday by derbyacresbob of a kit during the day. Your buddy is wrong to base his opinion solely on a day time fox.

I agree I've was in a contest this weekends and I got a swift fox at 1:00pm and he charged in hard right in between me and the truck to ten yards. So it can't be that far fetched. Beside's isn't that part of the reason we all go out and call. You never know what your going to have react to your call and what time of the day they are going to do it.

I was at the tournament last year , it was not the fact that they brought a kit fox to the weigh in . One of the tournament directors heard one of the hunters in the group tell another hunter in a different group that they shot the fox ten feet away from the truck. That is why everyone was pissed
