Knight & Hale EZ-Howler

I just purchased a Knight & Hale EZ-Howler to try out as I use a Foxpro for the predator sounds. I can't seem to make a realistic sounding howl with it. I realize it's a cheapie but I was hoping that it would sound better. Sounds like a sick duck call. I am using my diaphram but still can't get it right. Is it me or do I just need a better howler...thanks

Rick

Others may have different ideal's here, but I have yet to hear a Knight & Hale predator call that sounded good to my ear. I'd say your experience with this call is more typical than not.

Like GC I haven't heard a good one yet. You can try taking it apart and doing some tuning yourself. The sound board is a wedge lock system. Just pull on the sound board and it should all come out. You can then change positions of the reed and try it out. If all else fails it can be used as an open reed by removing the barrel. The tone break will be short but with practice it will make a decent locator howl and kiyi sounds. Jimmie

i used an knight&hale easy howler for several years and called coyotes with it, it takes ALOT of air pressure but for a closed reed howler it's the best i've used. i always caried it before my sceery open reed howler.
do yourself a favor and get ya a latex cow horn howler, it'll blow away a closed or open reed howler..

I had a K&H EZ Howler for about a year before a guy at the gun shop showed me to use it as an open reed.It works much better that way,but still doesn't come close to my new TT cowhorn.Far superior sound and much easier to blow. The first note I blew through it sounded better than any noise I had made with that plastic thing in 6 years.

had the ez howler for two days and gave it to my cousin the open reed is much better i like the dan thompson Red Desert Howler give it a try Ron

I agree with Mr Cronk.

Now if deer season would just end, I could get back to some coyote hunting. Calling for snow tomorrow. Might be a good day to go blast a distress call somewhere /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
