It's kind of hit and miss really. Kansas had some unbelievable storms this past spring with isolated heavy hail. Some crop damage, in areas, was 100%. So in these isolated areas, the birds really got hammered. I got into quite a few the second week of the season but with all the late fall rains, all the good quail habitat was underwater or so muddy you couldn't walk it. The last week in January could be real good. All those waterways and creeks that were underwater early in the season should be frozen if it stays cold. Alot of those same areas are surrounded by crops that the farmers couldn't get to because of the mud. I don't know what direction you go from Hays, but northwest of there got hammered with hail this spring. I work with a guy that went southwest of Hays and they tore up the pheasants but not alot of quail. Naturally, all the property I hunt is northwest of Hays. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Good luck, and just for the record, I think there were more birds last year.
