kudamundi, any1 in arizona shot one ???

i harvested two of them. one male, one female. i happened upon both of them by chance. however, i did spend ALOT of time in the arizona border units like 36B, and 35A. the first one was in 36B, near "Ruby" , i had broken out the shotgun on a archery deer hunt, to do a little quail/rabbit hunting.
the second was a scouting trip, walking around with my .223 east of nogales, but before mt. washington.
both skins are stretched out above my desk, each bringing me a different memory.
the seasons coincide with bobcat, ringtal, badger, and a few others i forget. this year i believe it started august 1st.

Sheetrock's not done, but the mount is in place. The man has his priorities in order.

Coati's are raccoon cousins. I saw several in a pet store in Atlanta back in the '80's. One was cream colored and kept charging the cage while I looked at it. All looked like they would chew you a new one if given the opportunity. All were in the $1,000 range even back then.

That's a good looking mount, by the way.
 
I have called in a 3 ring-tailed cats and killed a couple. Its the one with the ringed -tail on front row.

While bow-hunting I saw two of these and had no idea what they were until I described to the rancher who knew exactly what they were even though he had never seen one. Pretty rare in Texas.

There appears to be some confusion between a ringtail cat and a coatimundi. Ringtail cats and coatimundi are 2 different species meaning that they cannot interbreed and have offspring. They are related in that they are both from the raccoon family (Procyonidae). Ringtail cats are more widely distributed in the United States than coatimundi. Some states (AZ, NM, and TX) have both species and Arizona provides hunting seasons for both species.

Does Texas and New Mexico have a hunting season for Coatimundi or is Arizona the only state in the USA with a hunting season on them?

They're pretty eerie, they normally are in pretty good size packs. Ive seen one or two and then I saw a whole heard of they 2years ago while sitting a alphalfa field on a mule deer hunt. They'll come at you and they have some teeth on them too
