Coyote came in to the call using Syco cottontail around 8:30 PM. I thought I had her located but could not find my light that I usually carry. Looked for 20 or so minutes, no luck. Decided to go home and about 1/2 mile away on the way out I had to pass a large pond and decided to scan with my rifle. Did a left to right sweep, saw nothing, decided to look farther up the slope and here he comes headed for the water. He rooted around the edge for a while and then stepped into the water and turned to almost full head on so I took the shot. DRT! Ruger American Go Wild 243 with Hornady 87gr Vmax. Neither animal moved, well, they both did a little stanky leg dance but did no traveling. I recovered the coyote on Saturday morning about 40 yards farther out of where I thought she should be. I fished out the hog this afternoon with the help of a friend and his lariat rope.

Lots of commentary about feral hogs here on PM. I personally leave them for the scavengers. I could probably be tempted to try one of the piglets that are 20 to 40 lbs. These big boars stink really bad and I'm told they are not worth the trouble to process. We have one processor here and he will not process feral hogs.

Nicely done 22magnum22! Those 87 grainers leave a mark! Lol...
Yeah, I'm too old to be chasing wounded critters! Coyote pic is the exit and the hog had no exit. Here is entry point. Maybe Yellowhammer will come along and guesstimate weight on this one I'm thinking maybe 220#

I use the exact same gun and bullet and no matter where I’ve hit pigs they go down. I have purposely hit them far back at an angle when I want them to run and squeal, but still results in a dead pig and they don’t make it far.

Yes, we dragged him about 40yds downhill from the pond, lots of cattle on this property. I will be using him as bait for a few days.
I went back to the kill site Thursday, late afternoon, just in time to see a lone coyote run in on a young bald eagle that was feeding on the boar carcass. Eagle and coyote fled the scene quickly so, no shot. All that was left of the carcass was mostly bones and hide.

I’d love to know the difference in y’all’s pigs vs our as far as coyotes eating in them. I could have the ultimate bait piles if they worked here.

This whole time I thought you guys down south were making delicious free bacon out of those hogs I was jealous and wishing they were up here in the North, didn't know they didn't taste right
