Lee Hand Auto Primer

My hand primer died on me last night. The steel piece that pushes the spring loaded plunger up under the primer broke on me last night. I don't know how or why but it did. The primer was seated half way into the brass and it would not come out of the collet. So I proceeded to tear down my resizing die to push the primer back out the bottom to get the collet to come off. Anyone ever have this happen to them? Must of been bad casting or something. I know I wasn't pushing that hard on the primer. I finished up my loads by using the primer in the resizing die. Does Midway guarantee the products they sell? This is only about 2 yrs old and maybe had 50 primers run through it.

I think Lee has a 2 year warranty. I broke the thumb handle on mine, and ordered replacements from Lee. I've primed K's
on mine.

I broke the thumb handle on the first one I got. I found one locally for $12 so I bought that. I still have leftover pieces, if you can show what piece broke I can send the one I have.

Its the metal part that swivels on the thumb handle to push the spring loaded plunger up under the primer. I'll try to get a picture up here.

Got your PM.. am On my way to the PO, it will go out today. Also sent an extra tray with a plunger and spring, along with the main Body of the Primer. The hand lever was broken.

Grant..

Yeah, the first one I bought broke just like that. I bought an RCBS bench-mount priming tool to replace it. It's slightly slower, but I like it better.

Let me know what I can do for you. I appreciate this immensely. I have "good" friends that wouldn't do this for anyone. Thank you very much, sir!!

After priming thousands of cases with both small and large Lee Auto Prime tools, I've retired them both. I now prime with Sinclair Priming tools.
There is no comparison between the two as to which is best; the Sinclair tools are far and away better priming tools

I have primed thousands with mine. The descructions tell you to keep grease on both ends of that broken part. Not saying this was your problem. The part does seem like cheap pot metal.
I am glad someone was able to help you.

I have two. One set up for small primers one for large. Been using the same two for many years and many thousands of rounds now with no complaint. I even bought me one at a gun show a few years ago as a spare. It is not looking like I will ever need it. They are my favorite Lee products.

I have three, one for small rifle, one for large rifle and one for benchrest. I've used the Lee's for over 20 years and like the feel I get with them. In all that time I've loaded thousands of rounds of ammo and broke two of them in exactly the same place that yours broke. But, for $12 bucks, I figure I've gotten my moneys worth out of them.

Being new, here comes another question.

Are there any issues priming a bunch of cartridges in advance and storing them in plastic 100 round cases?

i used a lee for all common cals., in the beginning, but i soon found out that all there special cal. shell holders were special order, bought a hornady that exepts rcbs shell holders and the lee collects dust.
