Leica Geovid BRF Rangefinder/Binoculars

Anybody using these? Or had a chance to play with a pair? I know they're expensive ($2000), but they ought to be just the ticket judging distance to that hung-up coyote. I've never owned or used a rangefinder, but good optics (scopes and binos) have often made the difference in whether or not I took a cat or coyote.

I have leica binoculars and I am a second owner. They charged me $360.00 to refurbish them and did a roton job.I sent them back and they did another roton job. The worst screw job I have ever had.
 
Thats my only hesitation with Leica. I have swarovskis as well as a pair of leica binos and the customer service is incredible with swarovski. Leica is pain in the rear.
 
I just bought a pair of Leica Ultravids with a lifetime warranty. I hope they don't need any repair for a long time. The Geovids were nice but seemed like a risk with two in one and I think the current warranty is 3 years. Not good enough for me at that price. With the current promotion we get a 1200 scan tan colored rangefinder for $400. I also put Butler Creek scope objective flip caps on the new Leicas instead of the crappy caps it came with. This is a great improvement with them flipping down out of the way quickly.

Probably doesn't matter at this point because you've already bought the Butler Creeks, but I just thought I'd let you know Leica updated the objective covers for the Ultravids. I'm wondering if maybe you got the old style?......

I just bought a pair of 8x42 Ultravids a couple weeks ago and was sorely dissapointed with the objective covers provided because they were stiff and wouldn't just fall out of the way when taken off. I called Leica customer service and they said I must've gotten a pair of "outdated" covers. They agreed to send me another set free of charge. They came yesterday along with a card confirming my Passport warranty. The new covers are tons better and are pretty similar to what Swarovski provides with the EL's.

On a side note, I agree with your thinking about the Geovids. No way could I be happy spending that kind of money knowing the warranty is so short. I understand the appeal of having both a rangefinder and bino in one unit, but there's no way I'd drop $1900.00 on one, especially the way my luck runs with electronics. I'd prefer to have two separate units incase the electronics go [beeep]-up.

I'm gonna call Leica on Monday and see about getting in on the LRF promotion.
