leica vs swaro rangefinder....

Any one had any hands on with the new leica 1500 or the new swarovski range finders. Had the two side by side the other day and the swaro blew the leica away on repeatabilty and distance.Anyone had similar experience.

No, not me... I bought the Leica CRF 1200 because it blew the competition out of the water...

It ranges as well at night hunting coyotes, as it does in the day... I couldn't get the Swaro or new Nikon to even keep up with the Leica.

Extremely fast and good target finding.... Nikon really lagged and Swaro was distant second.

My local sports store let me take all three out for a test run for one day and that night...

I took the others back and bought the Leica !!!

Interesting, I could not get leica to consistently give range at the longer ranges. It seemed to need to be more stable than the swaro in order to range and would not give repeatable readings.Maybe it needed new batteries. The swaro locked on to every thing I pointed it at.May have to take the leica out to the field and try them out.Certainly are cheaper than the swaro.

I have a Swaro 8x30 Laser Guide. This unit is awesome. Yes, it is pricey, but it works under all conditions.
IMHO, go with the Swaro and don't look back.

Each to his own.... I just know in my conditions and my country the Leica shined over the others...

I guide professionally for two months every fall for Elk, deer, and antelope here in Wyoming. I know which one is gonna be hanging around my neck to ensure the best job I can do for my hunters...

The Leica CRF 1200...

just my opinion and my conclusions drawn from the testing I did with all three mentioned in my above post.

This picture is of Dave, and me on the right, a first time Mule deer hunter. He made a great shot on him after a quick shot from the Leica to tell him the range before this big boy ducked into a draw. 274 yards, his first and only mule deer. I enjoyed this hunt a lot. Don't know if he'll ever get a better buck then this one, but I know he'll never forget his first one !!

I am going to have to try the leica again, I guess it may depend on what your are asking of it.I do not have much need for a range finder out to about four hundred yds, My rifle is flat enough and I can just that distance consistently. Many range finders work just fine under the 400 yd distance. It is when it gets past that 400yds and the bullet drop becomes much greater that accurate ranging is important. I am sure no matter which I end up with I will be tickled.I have not talked to anyone with either one that was not well satisifed.May buy the leica and it I am not satisfied go to the Swaro. thanks

no disrespect but is 274 yds the typical distance you use your rangefinder at of do you often use it at extended ranges.I guess what I am saying is that range is not asking alot of most rangefinders.just curious in what situations the others came up short.

I was saying the buck was heading into the draw, the fast target acquisition is what I was praising.... not found with the other two I tested.

Daves hunt was the first out west... first time shooting through a scope in his life at something besides paper....

274 yards is a typical and ethical range.... I don't like spending countless hours on recovery because someone shot beyond their abilities.

It is one thing to range something at 500 to 1000 yards,
another to be ethical and conscious of your decision to pull the trigger.

I mean no harm and am not talking down to you. I do believe we as hunters need to make very important decisions.

this is an ever changing world and not in favor of the gun owner or sportsman... every thing we can do to improve our image is a must.

I did my testing and I bought what I felt was the best for what I do...

The leica outperformed the other ones I had... so I bought it and it has not failed me...

No problem. Quick acquiring of range is definately a consideration. As far as the ethics ,not all applications of rangefinders in shooting have ethics involved.Big game hunting does.Probably will buy set of leica's.Like many things it is hard to know until you put them to the use intended.

thanks for understanding,

shooting at all living things has ethics involved.... just not shooting at paper.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I got the leicas for $599, I am extremely satisfied with them and would recommend them to anyone.

I use them a lot in my profession and personal hunting....

Worth the $$

Good luck Smokem

I'll echo what Yotes2call says. Didn't test drive the other models but have used a Leica 1200 for 4 years now. Out here in the west, things always look further than they really are, especially coyotes. The Leica works extremely well for me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Bought the new little Leica CRF 1200 last year. It's about he size of a pack of cigs. I am really impressed and for night use it is awesome as well. Fast and reliable

Ranging small targets like a bedded fox on snow is the real test for the rangefinders I tried. Bought the Leica 1200 and it is awesome, all the time.

Only peeve is the red led display. Being color deficient like many guys, I can't see those red numbers worth a darn.

bought leica crf1200 ranged mailbox at 1102 yds so I would say that should be good, the difficulty I had early on was because neither the salesman or I had read the instructions. The advantage I can see for the Swaro is that is has glass more suitable for scanning and viewing, but you pay for in in $$$$, size and weight. thanks
